Upside Down!

has anyone felt their baby flip into the birthing position yet?  I think my little one has flipped.  My upper stomach area is much more round and tight and I'm getting kicks above the belly button.  I feel little hiccup like sensations down below.  Just wondering if anyone else has flipped yet!

Re: Upside Down!

  • Mines been head down for weeks. My girls usually stay transverse until this stage so i was amazed. I love that his little booty is now my book prop. And when he's wiggly he already responds to the booty pat to calm down. Now i just need to work on making sure he stays head down and anterior.

  • There is still enough room for our babies to flip around in there.  They change positions frequently.  Yesterday DH and I could feel our little girls head (or butt, not sure which) near my belly button, but after a few squirms she was turned into a different position.  Every now and then I will feel kicks closer to my ribs.  My doctor said it could be anywhere between 30-35 weeks before the baby is in a birthing position.  Not sure what week you are in, but your baby may or may not stay in that position.
  • Once mine go head down they tend to stay that way, thank goodness.
  • Mine has been in position every time I've had an ultrasound, but the movement has been so 'big' lately (meaning, it feels like a whole body move and not a kick) that I worry a little that baby is flipping around. I want him or her to stay in position!! LOL
  • This past week I have noticed a big change. She is kicking me SO much harder and I feel her kicking to the top right of the abdomen next to or above the belly button. I also feel what I'm guessing is her head and hands to the lower left of my abdomen. Not to talking upside down but she is letting me know when she does not like a position!
  • Mine has been head down for awhile now, but she has her feet down by her head so she is kicking really low but her butt is up in the air! Definitely a strange feeling! I love that she reacts now when I pat her butt!  :D

  • @lucky10liz it's my favorite part of pregnancy, to feel the baby moving, especially in reaction to me touching her.  It's the coolest feeling ever!

How far are you all? I don't think mine has turned yet!? I feel kicks down below, does that mean his head is still up?

I keep feeling tons of hiccups way down low!
  • I'm not sure if she's turned. I do feel movement as low as near my pubic bone sometimes and as high as a couple of inches above or to the side of my belly button. I definitely know when she has hiccups because her whole body jerks. Lol.

  • I can't tell the difference between kicks and punches! My babe was head down at 19 weeks, but who knows how long that lasted haha! Sometimes I feel something big, round, and hard pushing on my stomach on either side of my belly button (and it's very visible from the outside!) but I have no idea what body part it could be lol
  • My little guy has been head down since at least June 23. He's really really low so they don't expect him to flip. I have a love hate relationship with how low and head down he is. I love that he isn't in my ribs and he's in a better position for birthing reasons but my hips hate him being there lol. I can feel him stretch his arms and push my hip areas outward (or try to anyways). But he loves to flip his legs back and forth
  • I've been so curious about where she is! I've been feeling lots of movement to both sides of my belly button and a little higher.

Went in for our 3D ultrasound today, so I got to see that she is head down and has been jabbing my left side with her arm. The tech said she still has room to flip, but that I would feel a total turnaround pretty clearly if she decides to turn. So fun to be able to put a picture to the movements!
  • I can't tell where she is at all. At my last appointment the midwife said "she's breech...no, wait, she's transverse." So far she seems to still be in that position but I have no idea how to tell. I feel movement bear my belly button, bladder, and both hip bones.

I generally feel lots of strong kicks round my ribs/top of my uterus. And lighter squirmy feelings near my pubic bone so I did wonder if my wee babe is head down at the moment. Last week a midwife checked me and asked if I usually carry so low which surprised me as I'm getting booted in the ribs so much! She must be really spread out and enjoying the space!
  • How can you tell the difference between a right hook and left karate kick!?  I haven't felt anything above the belly button yet.  Just plenty of movement right below the belly button!  My upper belly though has been growing bigger than my lower belly.  I think the last week or so the lower belly is catching up!  (Yes I'm a B Belly gal at the moment!)

That's transverse @anorthro. That is exactly how my girls sat and felt until they flipped. Usually you'll feel a big movement if they are changing positions.

Any of you who are confused and want to know more check out spinningbabies.com.
You can belly map and learn ways to encourage good positioning.
  • I'm due oct 1st and I don't really know if he is in the right postion yet I sure feel him move haha but I hope he is upside down after reading this I'm trying to figure out how he is.... because I have felt movement lower bellybutton but alot of movement and strong movement on the top of my tummy and some times on the sides. Maybe he went upside down I felt him move one time it was just amazingly scary but so happy he is moving I felt like the lady in aliens I thought he was going to pop out of my tummy

Yes! She was kicking me forever so low down, it even felt like at times she was kicking my tail hehe. Now I can feel and see her kicking me like two inches above my belly button. I'm excited because hubby can feel her better too :). I'm 26 weeks.

Edited to add: Who knows if she'll stay this way though, I have a long time to go!
  • 2 weeks ago Baby O was breech. But today, at 29 weeks, I found out he's officially turned, and the doctor expects him to stay that way. Yay! I had no idea where he was, though. I just felt lots of wriggling and jabs.
  • Our LO has been head down so since 18 weeks! I guess she's ready to bust out.
  • If there is any pattern to where movement occurs, I can't remember it. I guess I have felt movement mostly below the belly button or slightly above. Not near my ribs yet. Occasionally I feel relatively gentle sensations of movement neat the bladder or cervix. Those might be in my head! I did feel a VERY strong shove on the lower right side of my belly today. But not sure what body part.

Maybe the spinningbabies site will help me!

  • As I'm sitting here drinking my coffee and watching the price is right(no judging it's my day off) I am feeling strong kicks on the right side near the top of my belly. Then I'll get a few jabs down low almost like the kid is kicking my descending colon. So I have no idea what position this kid is in.
