Hi everybody. I'm measuring about 12 weeks 4 days and the other day we were told our baby has gastroschisis. Is anybody else going through this? Or know anybody who went full term?
I found your post when doing a search for gastroschisis (wanted to see
if prior gastro mommies were deemed high risk for follow on
pregnancies).
I just wanted to share my son's story. He is going
to be 8 in August and unless you saw his scar (pretty small) where his
belly button would be, you'd never know he was a gastro baby. I found
out after elevated AFP levels during a blood test. An ultrasound
confirmed it. He was born vaginally at 35 weeks. At birth his stomach,
small and large intestines were exposed. He was in surgery within two
hours of being born and had a successful primary closure. He was in the
NICU just shy of 5 weeks. No major complications in there but they
weren't seeing the digestive progress as quick as they wanted, so they
didn't let me feed him breastmilk until he was about 4 weeks old. Once
he started eating, it was only a few days and we were home! The only
post NICU complication he had was a hernia at 3 months, they may not
have even fixed it right away but he also had a double hernia in his
groin that was causing problems, so they fixed it all at the same time.
