Hey ladies! So this post is going to painfully point out that I am a FTM with zero clue of what the heck I'm getting myself into. So without further adieu... How did you ladies stay pretty while in labor? I see a lot of pics of ladies in labor and right afterwards and they look stunning. They are always so pretty. I always look like a hot mess and never wear make up but for some reason I am obsessed with looking good the day I am in labor. So how did you ladies do it? I'm planning to get my nails done the day or so before my DD and my sister is a hair stylist she is going to give me a blow out on my DD and then my BF is really good with makeup so she is going to give me fake lashes. Everyone I talk to about the glam squad plan laughs but I want so bad to look pretty in my pics! does anyone else feel that way and for those BTDT moms how did you stay pretty? Also I realize how silly this is so again I welcome the flames. :-)
Re: Hey there good lookin'
Everyone is different but my fab lashes really the last thing on my brain while delivering....
Also, just because you have an epi doesn't mean you look pretty. Epi or not I don't care. Labor is hard.
Op I get wanting to look pretty but I'd save it for after birth. The last thing you'll want to worry about or even be thinking about is messing up your blown out hair and fresh makeup. After birth , go for it!
1. Birth photographer (don't leave it to your SO or mother to find your angles)
2. Practice low maintenance, easy hairstyles. Bring a brush.
3. Practice low key, very light coverage makeup.
4. You look glamorous anyway because LO will be in your arms
I think for you your best bet is to hire a birth photographer. Someone who is trained to get good angles and edit them accordingly. If you are like me...You won't regret having the pictures
In the real world I can't even imagine eyelashes on when I don't even know as a ftm if I'll cry when I see him, or from how bad it hurts, the rush I'll get from it all being over.. I can't imagine mascara, lashes, hair, makeup... oh my no no no.
Edit: one autocorrected word incorrectly
I'm gonna have to share a few of those pictures.. Because once the adrenaline rush of pushing her out was done, I like shut down
The second one, according to my husband and DDs godmom, I was passing in and out of consciousness lol. Nothing fancy done there but I feel like I still looked halfway presentable.. Right? I want to do my hair and maybe makeup this time, but I have a feeling nature won't allow. Don't beat yourself up if you end up with a messy bun on your head, you did the most important job in this world.. No one says you gotta look like a super model when you finish
( picture) This is my first nap with baby on me skin to skin while hubby made sure we stayed close and safe.
IF I did care, I would take some makeup to put on AFTER the birth and run a brush through my hair. Why do you need to look good while in labour? Can you not have a few moments off looking perfect? Are people really going to be photographing you while you're pushing out a baby?? This all confuses me.
The idea that you'd have perfect makeup and false eyelashes on during labor makes me laugh. Think of it like putting in false eyelashes before the hardest workout of your life - your blowout is not going to last and you're going to end up with makeup and eyelashes all over your face. And you're not going to care. Personally I think you have a better shot at those pictures looking good if you're not wearing any makeup then if you have a ton on - it just isn't going to stay pretty through labor!! But as PP's have said, those "pretty"photos you see are most likely taken after the mother has had a chance to shower and clean up, not immediately after the birth.
Again, I can be just as vain as the next girl, so this is not intended as a dig at the OP. It's just some of what I've seen is too much for me. And I guarantee any BTDT mom is thinking the same thing!

Honestly, it will probably be the last thing you are thinking about as your are staring at your beautiful little baby. And...even if you are a sweaty mess, think of it as "new mom glow." I just pushed out a baby, hadn't showered, or put on any make-up but I treasure these pictures.
