Breast Implants & Milk Supply

I had breast augmentation about 10 yrs ago now and found my milk supply was low with my first child. I was only able to solely breast feed for three weeks. :( Drs say it shouldn't affect your milk supply but all the mamas I know with natural breasts fed their babies for well over two months. I regret getting them now anyways because after my first they needed to be redone. I feel I would have been better off with my smaller but natural breasts. Any advise from mamas with implants?

Re: Breast Implants & Milk Supply

  • Are there lactation consultants in your area? They should be able to help you with increasing milk supply and such. The hospital where I will deliver has a consultant on staff and I've heard of them being at OB offices or having private practices. Good luck!

  • Thank you! :) They do have lactation consultants. I tried everything from tea to supplements but I dried up. I have to wonder if it's the implants because I am larger, healthy women.

Read this and see if you can get your records from the surgery. It's not supposed to effect your supply but if you had glandular issues maybe it's being masked by the implants.

I'm bringing this up at my next appt because I've never been able to breastfeed exclusively even after tongue tie treatment and every trick in the book. I've always suspected it but it's not easy to have low supply taken seriously without jumping through a zillion hoops. I end up supplementing until they are on solids and then my supply can keep up.
  • @komorebi I really appreciate the info. I'll check it out.
  • @Natcat509 no problem. I just came across it last night while lost in Google. I hope it helps. So many lactation specialists get stuck in the dogma that most of us don't really have supply issues so they don't look outside the box. Each pregnancy is supposed to increase the chance that the issues will subside so hopefully it's not even an issue.that's what I'm hoping for myself!
