Baby at the beach

so we are spending one week at the beach with family and our new 17 week old baby. We have the sportbrella (like an umbrella but super awesome.. Definitely recommend it for anyone with kiddos), sunscreen, a fan, and decided to just venture out before 10 and after 5. It's a lot different being at the the beach with a baby being first time parents. Anyone have any tips for this week?

Re: Baby at the beach

  • We take our baby to the beach a lot (we live 1 mile from the water and I like to surf). I purchased a sun suit and hat on Amazon that work well

    SunBusters Girls L/S Sunsuit(UPF 50+), Grape/Plum, 6/12 mos https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9LLBU2

i play. Solid Brim Sun Protection Hat, Gray, Newborn (0-6months) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D402CKE

We have a beach tent as well and she will sleep in there and hang out.

I do use a little Badger sunscreen on her feet because they are not covered by the sun suit. I know you are supposed to wait until they are 6mo but I'm paranoid about sun exposure and I figure since it is one of the best sunscreens recommended for kids, a little at 4mo old won't hurt (but ask your dr).

    Have fun!

  • We just got back from a week in the OBX with twins and 15 other family members. My advice is to be flexible. Everyone will want to hold/play with/feed the baby so expect some tears due to overstimulation, then lots of advice on how to deal with the tears.

For going out to the beach, the lightweight muslin blankets were great for laying the babies on and for covering them to soothe and encourage a beach nap.
  • Thanks! Yeah the overstimulation is definitely happening and the advice on how to deal with tears and everything else is rolling in from Gma haha. He seems to enjoy being outside in the evening so far. I love the muslin blankets! They are really nice
  • This weekend we will be travelling down south to see my family and have a bit of a holiday. Also very precautions about the sun and the beaches etc. also brought sunscreen so I will definitely be caking my daughter in that, as well as taking an all in one and blankets etc (providing the weather in sunny England lives up yo it's name!) ;) you can never be too precautious about taking little ones to the beach!
  • We are camping right now and I am just avoiding baby being in direct sunlight... meaning my husband or I are always a few feet from the action, so we can be in the shade with the baby. I have Arbonne baby sunscreen I will use when we go to the beach, and my SIL has a sunbrella. But ultimately we decided we won't be able to participate as much in activities this year and that is ok because baby is more important. We take turns giving each other breaks and time to go do whatever. Teamwork makes the dream work lol

Wow! You are on it. Love Little Badger sunscreen. Used it on our older child, who never experienced sunburn -pretty good considering we live in Hawaii.

We took our canopy, the type you might use at a sporting event with four legs and a small blow up boat with a nice soft beach towel in it for our 4 month old to play and sleep in, we had a blast. The canopy is nice and large to put chairs under and you can even walk back and forth if you need to bounce baby to sleep and still be out of the sun. Once she was asleep we placed her in the little boat and enjoyed reading, and relaxing in the shade with her. I tried to attach a picture. Will try again later.
  • Thanks! Myrtle beach has this stupid law that you can't use anything but umbrellas on the beach
