Home Birth

Any October babies planning for a home birth ? EDD is Oct 1. I'm dying to know if I'll be early /late/ or on time. So far just over 10 weeks left till the due date. I'm living in anticipation, at times I can't wait for her arrival, while at the same time I don't want to rush through the pregnancy. Early pregnancy was very difficult, now I'm just enjoying every sleepy moment of it. This will be a planned home water birth with a small team of professionals.

Re: Home Birth

  • I'm planning one and also due Oct 1. I'm hoping i go a little late. Please oh please. Lol. But this will my third homebirth and one of my midwives has been at 2 of my previous births, so I'm very happy to have that support.

  • This will be my second homebirth. I had my first one at home but in a different state so I have new midwives this time. Loving the experience just as much as last time!
  • I am having a home birth also! Due the 14th and I also flit between wanting to rush to that date and savoring every moment that I can before the delivery ;) I'm really pleased with my midwife experience so far!
  • I'm having my baby in a birthing center, but I hope to have the next one at home. My mom had all of us at home and I think it's an awesome way to do it.
  • @leah665 i did a birth center with midwives the first time around. It's a great option and i loved the room, they had a nice big pool in the room to labor in. I had a really long labor that stalled so i transferred to the hospital (almost had the baby in the elevator on the way to l&d) but it was perfect otherwise and obviously didn't scare me away from out of hospital birth.

I planned an at home waterbirth with my first but had a non-emergency transfer. My midwife over booked, and I wanted her not her team. Especially because my labor stalled.

This time I couldn't find a homebirth midwife available for my due date, so I'm doing a waterbirth at a birthing center with a nurse midwive.

Next baby I hope will finally be a home!
  • This is awesome! I'm rooting for all ofyou! So far great experience with our team. Biggest anxiety may be the actual labor, but honestly I can't wait. So excited ♡
  • That was our original plan but we've decided to have the majority of my labor at home with my doula and plan to transition to our hospital 5 minutes from our home to deliver. I'd love to shoot for a home birth for the second time around :) but good luck to all you ladies I think the concept is so awesome!

That's a great plan too. Often labor stalls a bit once you make the move to the hospital, but if you're far enough along that's not always the case. One of the biggest mistakes women make is going in too soon and a doula can really help you decide when it's a good time to go.

I love midwives for prenatal care. I never feel rushed, and i always feel relief after our appointments. Plus my girls get to help with the heartbeat and fundal measurements. I'm so happy they get to see pregnancy this way and that I'm healthy/low risk.
  • Right now I'm working with one particular midwife, while still regularly meeting with the whole team. I definitely have a favorite but I'm making sure I am comfortable with everyone. I don't know who will be on call once I actually go into labor, but I know who I would pick to be there if I had the choice. I think I'm dreading most these final steps to get the house together. I haven't gotten my birth kit or tub yet, and I know I should get things ready asap. I find myself sleeping 12 hrs a night which gives me a lack of motivation to get things together each new day. I'm not complaining because, I know sleep will soon be a distant memory. We still need to get the nursery floor sanded and sealed, just had the hardwood installed. I feel like once the floor is ready and nursery can start getting put together, it will kick my butt into gear. Where is everyone else with their preparations? ?
  • I'm so behind on mine, but we are moving so other than gathering supplies everything will be a mess soon. I know it will come together but my head hurts just thinking about it.

I know the feeling just bought our home moved in January, first night in out home found out I was pregnant. Constant struggle to feel like I will ever be ready. Not to mention I only have a handful of "days off" from work left and about 1000 things I'd rather be off doing than cleaning and prepping. I just wish someone would do it all for me.

;) 8-> that's the lazy in me speaking lol

This is how I did it too.  I laboured at home with my midwife, and then transferred to the hospital (also 3-5 min away) when I was entering active labour.  I feel like I got the best of both worlds.  This time around, baby needs to be closely monitored and assessed immediately after birth by a paediatrician, so I don't have the option to do a home birth.  But I at least still get a midwife to act as my primary caregiver in the hospital. :)

    Good luck ladies <3
  • This will be my 3rd baby at a private birth center. 1st ended in a transfer to hospital but my 2nd was successful. Praying for another successful birth there. I would love a home birth but not where we are now. I wouldn't be able to relax. Maybe some day. :)
  • I love the idea of a home birth. I think it would be wonderful to be in the comfort of my own home. However, my first year as an ER nurse we had a baby come in who was born at home w/ a midwife. The midwife was unable to detect that baby was in distress early enough and sadly the baby died as a result. Something I will never forget. That is why I would always recommend a birthing center or hospital birth. You just never know and no mother should ever experience that kind of pain. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer, but as I said that day in the ER is something I will never forget.

  • Babies die daily from preventable things in the hospital and from things done to them because it's a hospital setting. Knowing your care provider and their track record is vital. And i trust my midwives completely. Homebirth is as safe and in some instances safer than hospital birth.

  • I'm hoping to have a home birth with our next. DH is not comfortable doing it this time he wants me in a hospital just in case. I agree as I'm adopted and have limited biological information. So we've hired a doula and will head to the hospital. But the next one I hope to have at home in a tub!
