Heartbeat?

I have an appointment when I will be 6w2d...will I be able to hear the heartbeat or at least see it on an ultrasound?

Re: Heartbeat?

  • It will likely be visible via transvaginal ultrasound but not audible on a dobbler from the outside.

  • The sounds you hear will be a mimicked sound based on the heartbeat. Usually around 8 weeks the ultrasound will be the actual heart beat sound.

  • You can usually see a heartbeat on ultrasound at 6 weeks. My doctor wouldn't use a Doppler until 10-12 weeks and the tech didn't let us listen on the ultrasound until 41 weeks.

  • Probably only if you get a transvaginal ultrasound. With DS we could only see it at 6 wks with the regular US, so she asked if I wanted to hear it. Of course I did, so she got out the transvaginal one and we got to hear it. Totally worth having something cold shoved up your vag :)

    Anniversary

  • I got an ultrasound at 6+2 with my RE. I didn't hear a heartbeat but we saw the flickering of a heartbeat.
