What are your guys tips and tricks for getting the baby to move or wake up?!?

Ahh I just really need assurance. I haven't felt the baby move in a couple days and its freaking me out. I have to go back on Thursday to finish up my anatomy scan because the baby was moving so much. But now there's not anything happening and I don't like it. I just want to feel the baby move so im not freaking out and depressed all week. To go from always feeling it move to nothing is hard for me. I have bad anxiety and I cant take my medicine because there's a chance it could hurt the baby so its not worth it to me. So what are some things I can do to get it moving.

Re: What are your guys tips and tricks for getting the baby to move or wake up?!?

  • Ice cold sugary drinks usually work for me and maybe kinda poke your stomach a few times and see if that works.. Maybe try a piece of candy or something small that's got a lot of sugar in it.. I have heard orange juice helps..
  • Loading the player...
  • Fruit helps and so do sugary drinks
  • I usually drink ice cold water or juice & it does the trick! He likes to kick up a storm when I'm sleeping. I can never sleep thru the night & when I do wake up, he's always kicking away.
  • And dont freak out! Baby is probably just tired. :) Don't stress yourself out trying to get the little one to move
  • I'm not sure how far along you are but please remember that it is okay for movement to not be consistent all the way to 28ish weeks. Baby is still small enough that certain places they may snuggle into might make it very hard for you to feel their movement. Also, if it is truly concerning, call your doc. Good luck!
  • If I lay on the floor and start poking around at my belly I can get mine to move.
  • Take a cold can or class and put it on your belly.
  • Aren't you tall? Don't worry. You still have room for the little one to go somewhere you don't feel. :)
  • I drank grape juice before my last ultrasound. She was moving like crazy. I could see her but didn't feel much. Just try to relax!
  • Lol I'm trying to relax. I'm not sure how all of you remain so cool and collective. I'm over here freakin out half the time. I just know a lot of people who have had weird things happen to them and they loose the baby. My heart would break if it happens to me.

I really dont have anyone to talk to about being pregnant or the concerns I have. The baby's dad doesn't care about the baby only me. And my mom is s having a hard time about me being pregnant still.

I'm going to be creaking out everyday fir the rest of my life about this baby. I just want it to move so I can fall asleep tonight.
  • I don't know how big you are but yesterday I laid in my stomach until I felt baby move, I'm not very big yet so I still sleep on my stomach.

Girl I'm the same. Some days baby kicks quite often and I can see the movement in my belly, other days, nothing. Poor SO is dying to feel movement. Take last night, we went for Caribbean food then went to a bar after, baby didn't react to any of it. I'm 25 weeks on Thursday and have a midwife appt that day anyway. But as pp's have said, baby's movements are usually pretty inconsistent at this time. I understand your concerns though.

Icy drinks & chocolate biscuits work every time!
  • It's still too early to be worried about feeling daily movement. Don't worry until the 3rd trimester.
My baby was moving like crazy during the anatomy scan and I could only feel half of it.

For me laying down and being very still usually allows me to feel him more. But he still has days where I never notice him. They sleep a lot in there.
Mine is most active overnight so if I sleep well I miss most of the movements

The more active you are the more you're probably lulling them to sleep.

Relax and trust your body. Your baby is fine.

Feeling more frequent movement can honestly happen over night. I'm 24w 1d and at this point I could easily count kicks as if I was in the 3rd trimester. I can also see movement and it's easily felt from the outside. A week and a half ago this wasn't the case at all! So just hang in there and remember everyone is different. Baby is just fine so no need to stress.

When I've had a stressful day baby doesn't like to move around and my entire belly aches. I think I stress her out too. My suggestion would be to do something that will make you happy. Tell baby daddy that you need your mind taken away for a few hours! I bet when you may down that night not worrying baby will kick around and thank you for being happy!

I think the reason everyone is so cool and collective about feeling and not feeling baby move is that they have a precious bundle of joy growing inside of them. That mircale in itself should make you smile and relax!

    Good luck!
  • I find that the more active I am, the less movement I feel. I think baby gets rocked to sleep by all my walking around. They sleep 12-14 hours per day at this stage. Then, usually I just feel pressure when baby hangs out on my bladder -and have to poke my belly to try to get the baby to move! Eating something sugary and just trying to be still helps. It's still normal to not feel consistent movement at this stage.
  • Ice cold water, kind of hunching over at my desk (or microscope at work) and laying on my stomach for a few are great ways for me to feel the baby start moving. Just laying down quietly for a while is usually sufficient, too.

  • Do you guys remember the first time you felt the baby more or realized it was the baby moving?

I didn't realize until my anatomy scan that what I was feeling was movement. They called it a kangaroo baby because it wouldn't stop.

It's such a cool thing to have a baby inside of you.

At first I could feel the "flutter" or gentle popcorn popping feeling, but never was 100% sure it was the baby. Once you get some real kicks, there is really no mistaking it!
  • I don't know how far you are but my baby's movements did a disappearing act for 3 days around 19/20 weeks. I kept telling myself there would be other signs if something was wrong. I waited it out to my next midwife appt (no feeling fri - sun and appt was thurs). Midwife said until about 26-28 weeks lapses might happen when I can't feel baby bc baby position can really affect how I feel baby. Try to be calm. Besides that my LO seems to like chocolate milk or her DH talking/singing to her. DH also gently "earthquakes" her a little to feel her move sometimes. Theres at least one other thread of another "missing movement" situation which cleared up in a few days. I cant remember where it was but you arent alone! Good luck hon!

Ice cold juice, laying on my back (I prop my feet or a hip up a little bit), and DH's loud video game music always wakes her up.  And yeah like others said, its totally normal to not feel anything for days at this point (even though I know its hard not to worry!)  I remember watching her at the anatomy scan, she was wiggling around SO much and I couldn't feel a thing.

I'm not sure when I felt the first movement because it honestly felt like gas.  Still does (if its not a huge "thump" from either her head or butt), but I know in certain areas of my belly its definitely baby, not gas.  Also now I can feel her rolling/flipping around, that is SUPER weird.
  • Yogurt and ice water normal get my LO kicking up a storm. I was told I have an anterior placenta at my 20 week AS (22 weeks and 3 days) yet I feel her moving and kicking almost everyday. If I were you I would just try your hardest to relax, if I'm trying to make her kick she doesn't at all but when I'm just sitting on the couch and watching tv she just won't sit still.

This. A few weeks ago I would have to lie down and concentrate to feel baby. But for about a week now, it's been going insane and seems to have a little pattern. It just changed over night, from little movements to full on scenes from "alien"! I'm 24+2. It will happen and you'll be glued to watching your belly change shape soon!
  • Ice ice cold water
Or cold orange juice works well for me and my baby is extremely stubborn but the oj works every time
  • Cold drink and lay on ya left side for bout 15-20 mins should wake him /her up xx
  • Does anyone know why they say lay on your left side?
  • Doesn't laying on your left help with circulation?? I honestly don't remember and I'm having a brain fart..
  • Our baby girl kicks at night but when she doesn't, orange juice or sometimes fresh fruit help! Also when I lay on my side. They say the left side works, but I've had luck on my right side as well.
They say laying on the left side is best for baby for circulation and more room (?) Correct me if I'm wrong!

Try a flashlight! We did that with our son and it was a fun little game when he was in my tummy :)
Don't worry. They are just relaxing in there

I haven't stopped feeling her since Father's Day. It's an all day, and now an all night dance party. She'll go about an hour, maybeeeee two, and I start feeling her and see her kicks again for usually at the least 20 minutes. Doesn't matter what side I lay on or if I drink anything. I'm in for it once these kicks start hurting. Right now it just sucks if she's on my bladder.
  • Does anyone know why they say lay on your left side?

It's to increase blood flow apparently. I had to lay on my left side during labour when DD's heart rate dipped slightly. It made it go straight back up.

Yes, it increases blood flow to your heart and also keeps weight off of your major organs, like your liver.
  • I feel the baby most when I'm laying on my left side or when I'm sitting upright in a chair at my desk.

Try to relax and find peace of mind in the fact that your baby was moving so much during your anatomy scan!

Right?! I feel like in a few weeks I'm going to start a post looking for advice to get her to NOT kick or move! I'm sure she's going to be keeping me up all night.
  • I did the flashlight last night (she squirmed away so I felt guilty :/) and just found out music on the tummy makes her wiggle a little, too. :)
  • Chocolate milk :)
