been feeling worried

Ok, I will start this by saying that over the course of these last few months I have become pretty familiar with my baby's movement patterns as I am sure many of you have.

Every morning I wake up, drink OJ, lay back down, and feel her move. This morning I only felt one slight movement which is not normal, usually it's a dance. So I drank a glass of ice water to see if that would help. Again, I got one or two small movements but then nothing.

A little later DH and I went for a walk followed by a swim. I wasn't feeling her move at all. So now I am concerned. I eat lunch and feel one little roll. This is not what I'm used to!

I decided to contact the on call Dr and head into L&D to make sure she's ok in there. Long story short, she is totally fine! Thank you God. I knew if I didn't go in I would be worried sick about it so I'm glad I did. In hindsight, I was over analyzing everything and if I am completely honest the post from earlier this week really got to me and has been on my mind constantly.

This post is for anyone who may have also found themselves worried or anxious lately....
The nurse who took care of me at L&D said this: if you feel ANY movement at all then baby is just fine! You don't have to feel 10 kicks in 2 hours or whatever the kick count norm is. The time to be concerned is if you don't feel any movement whatsoever for 2 or 3 hours. If that happens, drink an ice cold sugary drink followed by a very cold ice water. Lay down and feel. If you don't feel any movement at all for 30 minutes, go to the hospital.

Of course, if you have other instructions from your dr then that's what you should go by. I should also say that I am not high risk.

Anyways, I just thought maybe this might be helpful for someone who may be feeling extremely vigilant lately.

Re: been feeling worried

  • Currently at L&D being monitored for the same reason. But I noticed baby boys decreased movement since last Saturday, I had gotten maybe two good kick counts in by the time I called in Wednesday night and the midwife on call said its normal because they're making their sleep patterns. Well yesterday morning no movement at all (he usually is the one to wake me up) but no movement till about 2:30 when I was at my prenatal expressing my concerns to my midwife (obviously *eye roll*). Anyways then since about 8pm last night he hadn't moved, I tried a kick count early today after breakfast I had a cold glass of OJ and only got about 4 movements. I was having some cramping and my belly was rock hard so here I am and obviously he's having a party in there! Just waiting to have an ultrasound done.

I am very glad I came in to get checked though because it's so nice to just know everything is fine.

I have been thinking a lot about that post too and was worried today. I usually have tons of movement and today she has been very lazy. I did do kick counts and mainly got body rolls and a foot bump here and there. I did get 10 "kicks" within 10 minutes but also backed it up with my at home fetal heart monitor. Her HB was in the 140s. Hopefully it is because I had a rough night sleeping and so I think she did too, so maybe that's why she is lazier today, I know I am. :)
Glad all worked out well for you ladies! Even though we are so close to the end it is still nerve wrecking!

I ended up in L+D last night due to less fetal movement, but the baby was perfectly fine. I think I was over analyzing due to an earlier post this week as well. Of course today he is back to squirming around and I guess just had a lazy day yesterday (couldn't get much movement even with caffeine, cold drinks and sweets) I feel silly for going in but the nurses were all very nice and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thank you so much and likewise!! I just couldn't get that post from earlier this week off of my mind and then throw all of my worrying on top I just had to come in.
  • Sounds like it's been one of those weeks. So glad everybody's little sweeties are all thriving and happy! We are so close.

I'm the same way. That post got me in all sorts of ways. I've been obsessively listening to baby's HR via doppler. I've drank so much oj the past 2 days just to keep feeling her movement. But I wouldn't hesitate to go to L&D if I was unsure about anything. Good luck to all you girls in L&D right now!

    Edited for spelling
  • I went to the hospital today for the SAME reason! 37+ weeks here. I have just noted less strong movements...they are very weak compared to the strong ones I'm used to. And just less in general so I was extremely worried. But all is well.
