My son is teething at 3mo?!

Hi! I'd like to know if anyone else's baby is already teething. This is my first baby and I'm only 17. I heard that babies of teen mothers develop slower but my son is learning really fast. Back to the topic.. He chews on his fist. Sometimes he grabs my finger and puts it in his mouth! He's very fussy but my mother says I was like that at his age. His gums aren't swollen. I just can't stop him from chewing. He drools so much I have to change him several times a day. I'd also really like to know about breastfeeding a baby with teeth. I have to use a nipple shield to feed him. Is breastfeeding a baby with teeth painful? Thank you. :)

  • It's only painful if they bite you but you still shouldn't have to worry about that for a while! My 3 mo is drooling like crazy and chomping her fingers and fists all the time as well! I wonder myself if she could be teething

Hi Ladies, at my mothers group they were saying that babies find their mouths and hands around 3 months.... And then of course start to drool because they start putting everything in their mouths. My little one is doing the same. They say most kids start teething at 6-8 months.
  • My 3mo is drooling a lot too and putting things in his mouth.  My friend's baby who is 10 days older than my son already has his two bottom teeth poking through as of over a week ago.  So it's definitely possible for the teeth to pop through at this age.

While it is possible, babies use their mouths for sensory exploration. While the drool isn't fun, it's an important step in their development and helps them learn about their world. It also can help their speech development. This is a very short article on this topic.

  • As they've said, they discover their hands and mouths (and feet!) around this age. Mine is 3mo and has his fist in his mouth all the time. I had read it's how they south themselves. Mine also drools all the time. We wear bibs so we can keep the onesies dry.
  • When do you start using teething toys? (Sophie giraffe, teething rings, etc) when they do these cues or wait until teeth are starting to show?

I use Sophie now. We have the little one with the 2 handles. It lets him practice grabbing and he chews on it sometimes. I wouldn't worry about the frozen teething rings and things like that, for pain relief, until you feel some bumps trying to break through or if LO is fussing more and seems to have some pain.

My almost 3 month old is also teething. I am seeing a tiny little white tooth popping thru in the bottom left
