I'm 19 and a first time mom who was very scared when I first found out I was pregnant. Now, going on my 19th week as of tomorrow, I've learned to embrace my age and the fact that I'm pregnant and I can't wait for my new baby boy! However I've been experiencing some severe bleeding the past few weeks and doctors told me I have subchroionic bleeding which can result in late term miscarriage if the bleeding is large. I just got a new job as an LNA and now I have been ordered to stay in bed rest and risk losing my job as well as my baby.
Anyone else out there with scary first time complications?
Re: 19 weeks and diagnosed with SCH
I was diagnosed with a large SCH at about 16 weeks after a large, intense bleed. I'm now just about 21 weeks and although my SCH is still there and the same size, it is showing signs of healing and I haven't had any new bleeding or complications. It is also not near my placenta - do you know the positioning of yours?
I see a perinatologist because of other pregnancy complications, and was told by my doc that they have to tell you about the slight increased risk of later term miscarriage. But it's very small and generally happens when there is recurring, non stop bleeding or multiple hematomas. So many women go on to have completely normal pregnancies - their body either reabsorbs the hematoma by the time they deliver or sometimes it just comes out during delivery. And some women bleed throughout their entire pregnancy because of the hematoma and the baby is totally fine.
I should tell you that 2nd tri SCH's are also linked to preterm birth, however this is more likely the case at 30 weeks or later, well beyond the point of viability (24 weeks). The SCH tends to weaken the membrane of the sac so as it grows and becomes heavier it can often rupture before term. So something just to be mindful of - not meant to be scary. Again, it's just a slight chance.
Hang in there. I know these can be so scary but there is light at the end of the tunnel!!
