Daily freak out!

I seem to have something everyday or so that worries me! My cat is sick and I had to give her half an antibiotic pill this morning. After I gave it to her I started to wonder about the fact that I handled it. My husband will give it to her from now on! I can't find any info about touching medication online when pregnant, many ideas?

  • What was the antibiotic?

  • marbofloxacin
  • OK. A fluoroquinolone. The entire class of antibiotics is a pregnancy category c. Basically, they don't have enough info to know if it is harmful or safe to TAKE during pregnancy. That being said, I work in a pharmacy. I handle medications all day. Including this class. It is not one of the types of medications on my list of things I can't handle. Some women take them when there's not a category b option. I don't think you need to worry, or keep from being the one to give your cat medicine. If it would make you feel more comfortable, you could wear gloves or have your husband do it, but if it were me, I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Thank you so much! Hope your doing well, how far along are you?
  • I'm have been amazingly lucky. I'm 16 weeks today and have experienced no nausea or any of the other "bad" symptoms of pregnancy. I almost didn't feel pregnant until I started showing. This is my first pregnancy so I really don't have much to compare to, just other women in my family. Now my little bump is growing and I get to find out boy or girl in a couple of weeks and go from there. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well! Any other med questions, feel free to pm me and if I don't know it, I can try to find an answer for you. :)
  • I'm 16 weeks today too! That's great you haven't been having many symptoms, I felt hungover for the first three months! I can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl :) I feel like we can make some purchases once we know! Thanks again!
  • I bought a couple of things so far, and have had a lot given to me. Mainly I can start setting up a nursery once I know. And register for clothes and accessories.
  • When my dog was needing treatment for an open sore, the vets told me to wear gloves to administer the meds, but they were a cream and a moist pad, so it was possible to absorb some of the medication through the skin. The vets wore gloves for the first application, too. I think if it is a pill you are much less likely to absorb much if anything. Gloves are cheap, husbands are cheaper :D
