So my husband and I are starting IVF soon, but the nurse just told us we have to give a urine sample, and have bloodwork done before they can put it through the insurance. They are testing for cotinine, a chemical found in cigarettes. She said it is a new law in Massachusetts that both parent must be non smoking for at least 2 weeks. Do you think 13 days will be long enough to be smoke free? I am fine but my DH was a smoker but quit and we would like to have the testing done before we go on vacation, as not to delay things any longer. This would be just one day under 2 weeks. Do you think he will pass? He also recently had surgery and was prescribed percocet. Will this interfere with testing or no because they are not testing for that? Any advice will help, thanks! this is so stressful:/
IVF #1, Stimmed for 12 days, ER 8/22/14, 9 retrieved, 7M, 7F!! Freeze all due to fluid in uterus.
FET end of October 2014 cancelled due to fluid in uterus due to possible c-scar defect
Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized. Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
I read 1-10 days several places when I googled. Good luck with your husband quitting! It's hard, but he can do it. I smoked through my 20's and I am so glad I quit. The hardest part was not smoking when I was drinking, so I got a e-smoke with zero nicotine in it to puff on while drinking. It helped big time.
not sure either, but as for the second part of your question - I think if he has a prescription for something they shouldn't count that against his drug test. He should just let them know. GL
