Breast pain similar to smacking your funny bone

I did my due diligence and searched but didn't see a thread about what I'm feeling.

One of my boobs, just the one, gets these pains that feel like the nerve pain you get when you hit your elbow or "funny bone." Alternately it feels like it's imploding or being tugged painfully inward. This is not at the same as the soreness or sensitivity from first trimester. Anyone know what this crazy pain in my breast is? It's weird!

I mentioned it to my doc but we didn't get into the details of it and she basically just said, " yep, crazy weird boob stuff will happen." (Obviously, I am paraphrasing.)

So thoughts? Government conspiracy? Aliens? Mind control experiment gone horribly wrong? Or like a normal pregnancy thing related to milk production or rapid breast growth?

Re: Breast pain similar to smacking your funny bone

  • The nerve part kind of reminds me of how it felt when I was nursing dd1 on one side and my milk would start coming out the other. Not sure about the imploding but I've heard it can feel different for different ladies.

  • Yes! It feels like nerve pain. Pulling. At times like a burning explosion. I don't remember it being as severe with my other pregnancies. I'm pretty sure it's my glands gearing up for milk production. I also am full of cysts so I thought maybe those were exacerbating the pain this time around. It's only happened a hand full of times. I'm 26 weeks.
  • I would chalk it up to aliens. I think that makes the most sense ;)

I do remember that kind of feeling after DD was born and when I was in the first weeks of getting my milk in and nursing. I suppose if it gets really painful, I would definitely call your doctor to see if there is anything you could be doing to ease the discomfort. I hope it doesn't last long!

@LiveNLove44 I just clutch my breast and screech when it gets really painful. It's not awkward to do in public or anything! Pregnant lady grabbing her own boob and screaming? Eh, totally normal, no need to concern yourselves. Nothing to see, keep it moving!

I too am leaning towards aliens. It's the only reasonable explanation in my mind. Although gearing up for milk production is certainly a much more pleasant and helpful scenario. I don't mind a bit of searing pain now and again if it means I'm going to be able to feed my little man when he arrives.

My next doc visit isn't until early August but then I start going every 2 weeks! Hard to believe it's already time to go to the every 2 week schedule, but yes, if the crazy alien induced boob pain continues I'll definitely bring it up and dedicate more appointment time to discussing pain relief options that don't involve frightening passerby's into thinking I'm a raving looney.

@mandy903 I'm 26 weeks too :) It started probably a week or 2 ago but it's gotten more frequent and intense the last several days. Now it's acting up several times a day and at least tingling on and off almost all day.
  • ME TOO!!!! It's like a string pulling my nipple inward, really really hard. No shame in my game, I'll hold onto my boobs in public when it strikes lol the cradling soothes it! I figured it may be nerve damage from my nipples having been pierced vertically and horizontally. I asked my doctor and she basically said don't be surprised by any weird pains and it's no worry unless it's unbearable. Womp womp.

@DeeGreer the pain to me isn't unbearable just more than I would like to experience. So I guess according to both our docs it's just one more awkward pregnancy thing. Nothing to do but grab them boobies and hold on for dear life I suppose. I love my baby so much, but man this creating life from scratch thing is complicated and a literal pain in the butt (tailbone), back and now boobs! But again, totally worth it :)
  • what ever the question is, the answer is always aliens.
For real though, I get the same pain, never asked my doc, but our hormones are crazy so I chalked it up to that.
  • I get a similar pain and never thought to ask. I assumed it was related to milk production. >-)

@ChariZae I love the alien emoji!!! I think the consensus is yes, the pain is related to milk production... Triggered by aliens ;) I'm just really relived it's not a government conspiracy thing, cause ain't nobody got time for that!
