being medically induced

What's it like to be induced?
Does it hurt? My midwife said she would start with a balloon catheter.
What's that like?

I can't speak for the balloon catheter, as I've never had that.
Everyone's induction is bound to be different, so I can only give you my experience.
Luckily, my induction went really smooth. They started me on cervadil to soften my cervix before I went to bed, which actually started my contractions on it's own. They were very small contractions. In the morning, they came in and started my pitocin line. I can say now, that after having natural contractions that were not with pitocin, the pitocin contractions proved to be stronger. But, I had received an epidural shortly after.
I took a nap in the early afternoon and when I woke up, I knew it was time to push. My son was born about 15 minutes later!

All went well for me and it was a great experience. I was induced at 38 weeks for blood pressure issues.

I also can't speak to the balloon, but my induction was great. There was something very reassuring and mentally calming for me to be at the hospital under the care of some wonderful nurses from start to finish.
    Good luck!
