Post partum C section FTM

might seem like a silly question but I had a c section exactly 2 weeks ago. I am allowed to drive now. I know the dr mention not to lift anything except my baby. DH is currently working graveyard shifts now (he only took 2 weeks for paternity leave) .... Gets home early mornings, I have a Dr appt tomorrow morning, obviously I don't want to leave baby with him since he just got home from work. Since I'm only allowed to carry my baby. How can I take baby with me? Is this even possibly? How other c section mothers do it? No rude comments please

I also had a csection 2 wks ago. I had to put him in his car seat and carry it in/out of the car and it was fine. Just lift it slowly to make sure you don't have any bad pain and don't try to walk normal pace, stay nice and slow. And lift the stroller in/out of the trunk slowly as well. It takes me awhile but I haven't felt my guts explode the stitches yet. How else are we going to leave the house to go do anything?

Edit: disclaimer that this was how I did it which may or may not work for everyone. Or anyone besides myself :) Don't pop a stitch if stuff feels too heavy!!!!

I had to take DS1 to the pediatrician at 2 weeks old after a c/s. I couldn't lift the car seat into the car and couldn't get it out without hurting so I got my MIL to come down and go with me just to help with that part. I could've just unbuckled baby and not taken the car seat in though.

If you can, find help. You don't want to overdo it and prolong your recovery or tear your incision back open.

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. Sounds scary thinking about , don't want to hurt myself

Your right, I don't like asking for help but there's no way I should over do myself and avoid prolonging my recovery
  • I had to do the same thing. DH works out of town, so I was on my own after 10 days. My doctor did tell me it was ok to lift baby in the car seat. Maybe make the appointment your only task for the day. We took it pretty slow the first few weeks. : )
  • Hi, I had to take my DD to her dr appt at 2 weeks by myself too. I found it easiest to just take her out of the car seat and hold her at the appt. I was already feeling kind of sore from driving right at the 2 week mark (which you may too) so I didn't want to overdo it even more by lifting her in the car seat. Hope this helps and good luck tomorrow!
  • Well... Doc told me not to lift anything but baby, no stairs and rest a lot. I'm a third time mom with a 4 and 6 yr old. And live in a two story house. I drove under two weeks, have had to carry baby, car seat, and diaper bag. 3 weeks post partum I had to lift my 40 pound 4 year old and catch my 60 pound 6 yr old. (Well I clearly shouldn't have cause now I'm really sore!
But how I handle it.. Is I just have to do things. I pulled my stitches at a week and my incision started to come apart.. Gross! So that was pushing it.

I had my mom and dad help me with the lifting for our daughters first appointment. I would still take it easy...maybe a friend or a family member can help you?
  • I took my LO out of the car seat I didn't want to carry the car seat and the diaper bag, and my doctors office is in a mall, which means I can never find close parking.
  • Just listen to your body. I'm going to have another c section soon for twins and I'll have to have help every time I go out with my 3 kids. It will be an adventure in the first 6-8 weeks. But I will survive.
