24 Hour Urine Disaster

So I had to do a 24 hour urine sample for my OB. This morning at 6 a.m. when I was collecting my LAST sample, I managed to knock over the entire freakin jug which covered my freakin bathroom.

Of course I burst into tears because of my horomones and the fact that I was covered in a days worth of my own pee.

I now get to redo it next week. Lucky me. My OB LAUGHED AT ME! He said it had been a long time since he'd had a patient spill the sample.

Word of advice, if you have to do a 24 hour urine, be careful! Cleaning up a gallon of pee at 6 a.m. is not something I recommend to anyone lol

This is awful!! I would be balling my eyes out for days (such crazy hormones). At least it was just pee!

When I do my 24 hr pee I empty the bathroom trash can and set my jug in it. It gives it more stability. Sorry you spilled your pee.

Lol if only I'd had the presence of mind to do something that smart! Oh well.. You live and you learn!!

Hold on, why does one have to do this test? @hplunkett2883 sorry if this is a totally stupid question. I'm not familiar with this test and I am a FTM. I'm gonna google it, but hopefully you answer...pretty please

I did it for my HBP. They wanted to determine my baseline to figure out whether or not I need to take meds. I'm not sure why else they do it.. Probably just to laugh at the idea that they are making a pregnant woman who pees 50 times a day collect said pee in a stupid orange jug.

I had to do it the first time with my last pregnancy because I was swelling and i had protein in my urine dip stick at the ob. They were checking for indicators of preeclampsia (which I had). This time I did it because of my history with preeclampsia. The ob said sometimes there are early makers and we could prepare better.

When I had to collect 24 hour urine sample following kidney failure, they made me keep it in the refrigerator! NASTY!

@bostonbaby1 I had to do that as well!! I put it in a paper bag and removed the bottom drawer of the refrigerator and put it there. I'm just mad that not only did I have to clean up a gallon of pee AND disinfect my refrigerator, I have to do it again next week! You'd think that with all the advances in medical technology that there would be other ways to store a urine sample! And I don't blame you for laughing.. It is actually pretty hilarious to me now. My husband helped me get over the crying/anger by being his typical supportive self. I can't seem to stay mad when he gets involved!

ohhhh thank you. I was looking it up and now I am fascinated with what urine samples can tell you. Don't mind me though. I'm somewhat of a weirdo.

Well in addition to my bathroom trash can holding my jug I also gathered crushed ice from my fridge and poured it around my jug in the trash can. I never lifted the jug out. I just added more ice when I saw it needed it. Plus since it was right by the pot all I had to do was add pee to it. I learned this trick working at the hospital. When we would collect 24 hr urine we would put the jug in a bath basin of ice. I was not putting pee in my fridge.
