Can contractions cause gas?.... Possibly tmi...

I am 40 weeks 4 days.... Haven't had any Braxton hicks, no contractions (until today I think), haven't lost my mucus plug that I know of, no bloody show, and now j am having horrible cramps (what I'm thinking may be contractions) and passing quite a bit of gas.... I suppose I'm wondering if these are digestive issues from something I ate? Or am I in early labor? This is my first babe so I am completely lost. I also haven't had any fish of waters so unless I have a slow leak that is still intact. Thoughts??

  • If you believe you're in labor, call your OB or midwife and see what they say.

  • My contractions felt like period or need to poo cramps at the beginning. I also had diarrhea. I started slowly losing my mucus plug shortly after the cramping started. Until it started getting regular I didn't realize I was in labor. I always thought contractions would start at the top of the uterus and that I'd feel a definite clenching and release of the muscle, but that wasn't the case for me.

Unless your water breaks or you start getting regular contractions, drink a bunch of water and try to rest. If they're real they'll become stronger and more regular, and then you should call your doctor.
