Weight gain

I have a concern. Im 17 weeks and lost 25lbs since we found about our baby. I had no nausea no vomiting hardly any fatigue this whole time. I eat but feel like im only eating what i would normally eat not pregnant and ive only gained 4lbs back. Has anyone had this problem?

Re: Weight gain

  • Same here, I've only gained 2 back of the nearly 10 I've lost and I'm 20 weeks. I talked to my OB Monday they told me they aren't too concerned unless I don't pick back up in third tri... Speak with your OB to calm your nerves. She said, eat when I feel hungry don't over stuff myself to try to gain. :)

  • I haven't personally, but my sister-in-law did.  She had such severe morning sickness that she lost weight.  And then she delivered really early (28 weeks) so she was actually about 5 lbs down from her original weight when the baby was born.  Her doctor didn't express any concerns but she was also extremely overweight to begin with.  I would recommend talking with your doctor and seeing what they say.

  • Also, she said they aren't too concerned at this stage unless a woman comes in underweight to begin with. Baby will take what it needs from us, if we aren't getting enough calories a day out body will let us know. Personally I've experienced this. It isn't fun to go all day without eating until 8pm, shaky and dizzy. Worst ever.
  • Remember that you only really need an extra 300 calories a day for baby so eating about what you ate last time isn't that far off. It's not like you need to be "eating for two".

I'd chat with your OB but I'm sure you're right. We're all still at a point where weight gain isn't a huge deal - it's mostly third tri that they want to make sure you're gaining the necessary weight. But, if it's concerning you, definitely talk to them.
  • I haven't lost as much weight, but if your OB isn't concerned, I wouldn't panic. As long as you are eating and taking your vitamins, getting in nutrients, you should be fine. But like @kyleneum13 said, chat with your OB.

  • I lost weight but I bet some of that was because I was a daily drinker pretty much so that is a bunch of calories cut out. I've only put on like 2lbs now so back to my pre-preg weight after losing about 8lbs. I also have a more active job than I did so I figure I get more exercise. I'm overweight anyway so not worried yet since I am only supposed to gain like 15-25 lbs and have time to do it.
  • I lost 8 pounds in the first 16 weeks and have only put on two pounds since then (I'm 20&2) my doctor said it was fine

  • I'm almost 18 weeks and I've lost 7 pounds but I'm overweight so my dr is not concerned. She actually congratulated me on it lol
