Not much weight gain... A concern?

so far this pregnancy I have only gained 10 or 12 lbs total. I am 26 weeks today. I never had any kind of morning sickness. In fact, most of that ten lbs was in the first few months because I was eating all the time. I also haven't been doing much exercise. Just walking.

Has anyone else who never had morning sickness not gained very much?

I don't know if f I should be concerned about this or not. My bump is not extremely large yet either.. The only thing I thing that lets me believe it's okay is the movement I've been feeling!

I'm the same. I've gained 10, maybe 12 pounds and I'm 25 weeks. I eat healthy and regularly, but the weight doesn't seem to stick. My ob told me to eat more but when I try that I feel awful and stuffed.
So I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing. The baby is moving more and stronger. I feel fantastic. Who cares if I don't fit everyone else's stereotype pregnancy?

  • I have only gained about six pounds so far....must all be belly and hopefully this kid is taking the extra resources I had!  I did not have morning sickness but also haven't really had much of an appetite....especially in the beginning.  My doctor has not expressed any concern so far but said to just expect to put on some more weight here the last few months.  I was overweight before so that could be factor as to why he's not concerned.  If you are overweight (I'm over 200) I don't think they want you gaining more than 15-25 pounds?  I could be wrong.

At last check I only gained 8 lbs. (Could have fooled me, I feel H U G E.) I'm 27 weeks. I never had morning sickness. The baby weighs 2, plus fluid, etc. I asked the doc about it and she said she's not concerned. As long as I am eating nutrient-rich meals, baby will take what it needs regardless of my (or anyone's) weight. She said not to listen to others who tell you to eat more when you are pregnant; it's simply not necessary.
  • Not a concern if your Dr isn't concerned. I'm up about 12 at almost 28 weeks. I'm a little ahead of my last pregnancy but once baby comes and that weight is coming off you will be grateful for this slow gain. A lot of weight comes in the last few weeks when baby is gaining most rapid anyway. I gained right at 25 with my last pregnancy and was under pre pregnant weight before my 6 week check :) your body knows what it's doing!

  • I've been hoping for a thread like this! I'm in my 28th week, and have only gained about 13 pounds. Like the original poster, I never had morning sickness and my only exercise is walking. My doctor hasn't said anything, but I'm going to ask about it at my appointment next week. I feel great, I'm eating well, and the baby moves constantly, I just want to confirm that he is getting what he needs. I've always been a little underweight, so I suspect that this is just how my body behaves.

If your doctor isn't worried, no need for you to be.
  • I've gained 10 pounds and I'm 26 weeks. My doc says my weight gain is fine. I posted this is another thread but it fits here: my mom gained 15 pounds with me - total. I came out 7.5 pounds at 39 weeks. Lower weight does not necessarily mean unhealthy baby.

  • I've gained about the same and am also at 26 weeks. Never had morning sickness. Doctor says my weight is fine, baby is measuring right on track. Like everyone else said, as long as the doctor isn't concerned then keep doing what you're doing!
  • I've only gained ten pounds and I am 26 weeks too! My midwives aren't concerned. I don't eat any grains but I focus on nutrient dense foods so my baby gets a lot of nutrition. My midwives care more about what I'm eating and how much, than how much I gain. Everyone's body is different. Mine just doesn't gain much during pregnancy. I gained 17 lbs with my first and He was perfectly healthy and weighed 7lbs. :)
  • I'm glad to hear these stories. It seems selfish to worry about gaining too little, but it's easy to want to be "normal" whatever that means. I am up 7 lbs at 25 weeks which doesn't seem like much, but midwife has not mentioned it as a concern. Belly feels big but I get super full very quickly these days. I've been eating fairly well but with occasional treats for sure. Nice to know I'm in good company.

You are very right, bwing overy weight yout only want to gain a max of 25 lbs....before I got pregnant, I was 210 lbs (bad me I know) but I'm only 219 lbs now and that's at the end of the day when I've eaten and everything
  • I've yet to gain any weight, after losing 15 lbs in my first trimester. I didn't have any morning sickness, and I didn't start off overweight or anything, I just started dropping weight. My dr says as long as I'm eating the right kinds of foods in the right quantities, he's happy with my weight. My weight did the same thing with my first pregnancy too. As long as your doctor doesn't mention that your weight is concerning in any way, I'd just go along doing what you're doing.

    the exact same as you!
  • I'll be 29w tomorrow, and I'm only up 10lbs... I've only threw up once, before I even knew I was pregnant.
  • I was on track (plus-sized, had gained about 5 pounds) until my most recent visit. Found out I lost 7 pounds since last month. My doc had me meet with a dietician and did some blood work to check vitamin levels, etc. Baby looks great and is growing/moving, etc. For the first time in my life, I am being told to eat more. I'm not trying to lose weight or anything, just paying more attention to veggies, etc for baby.

No, really, I love getting weighed every week. I consider it a highlight since I avoid scales like the plague.
  • I am 29w1d and still 1.2 lbs down from when I found out I was pregnant January 22nd. I lost about 12lbs but have slowly gained it back since week 21. Baby is good and growing and doctors said she's very happen with how things are going.
  • Im 28 weeks tomorrow with twins and only gained 6 pounds. They are only wanting me to gain a max of ten because I have heavier prepregnancy. If your doc isnt concerned..you shouldnt be!
  • I'm 28 weeks this week and I'm down 2lbs overall. My doc said most weight gain happens in the third tri anyway and she said she's not worried about it even if I continue not to gain. I've been pretty sick tho.
  • I'm 26+3 and have only gained 10 lbs, which has really been in the last month or so. I'm guessing I'll catch up closer to the end, bc my doctor hasn't been concerned at all. Sometimes I feel guilty bc I haven't gained a ton, like I'm not providing my baby with food, but I am conscious of what I eat so I have to tell myself I'm not huge bc I'm gaining in a healthy way for my body.
  • At my last appt, 2 weeks ago, I had gained a total of 9 lbs (at 23 weeks). The interesting thing was that I gained 8 lbs in the first 14 weeks and then had only gained 1, then 0 at my next 2 appointments. My doctor is not at all concerned and is very happy with how everything is progressing.

(Although... I've been vacationing at my mom's house for the past 2 weeks and I'm sure she's done a good job at fattening me up! Plus, I'm in a different state and away from my gym and workout routine, so I'm guessing I'll have gained a lot more at my next appointment!)
  • At my last appointment I had gained 7lbs total. That was about 3 weeks ago. I am overweight (starting weight was 176). Doctor hasn't mentioned it as a problem but I do have these same thoughts lol. Baby is currently 2 lbs 8 ounces and I'm 27w3d along!

  • I'm 26 weeks and have gained 8 pounds so far. I think most of my weight gain will come nearer to the end when the baby is growing much faster. Remember; baby only weighs 1-2 pounds right now!
  • At 25 weeks I've only gained 4lbs. I was heavy before I got pregnant and my doctor is not concerned with the little weight gain. The baby is the size she should be and I'm eating enough.
