Breastfeeding question for mommies who have already given birth

just wondering what you all are using for a nipple cream, or if your using one at all. I'm scheduled in for Monday to have my CS and noticed in the last few weeks my nipples are a little dry and I'm worried they will crack and bleed if I don't use something. My colostrum came in at around 5 months so someone told me to just moisturize my nipples with my colostrum which I have been but they still seem to be a bit dry so just wondering what has worked best for you. I've been told not to use anything scented or Vaseline or anything too thick. Thanks ladies!

    I have been using lanolin free nursing butter and haven't had any problems with cracking or bleeding and my baby girl is an eater. Lol

    Ok well your both saying lanolin so maybe I will try that. I'm in Canada so do you know where would sell that? I tried looking in Walmart yesterday and all they had was cocoa butter nipple cream and its scented and has taste to it so I didn't get it.

    I have a lanolin free ointment to use. I have read that lanolin you have to wipe off before baby feeds. I bought the bamboobies brand. Ordered if from Amazon. No experience with it yet though.

    O i c, so is lanolin an oily ingredient then I wonder? Thanks ladies this has helped, I will get the lanolin free one to try and hopefully won't have to use too much, will continue to moisturize with my colostrum until my milk comes in as well! :)

    My nips were dry and peeling on day 2 of breastfeeding, not that it hurt it was just weird to see. That was gone as soon as my milk came in and as long as I get her on a good latch there is no pain associated with nursing! I don't put anything on them as I wouldn't want that to go in her mouth.

    I haven't given birth yet BUT I have three things on hand that friends have recommended. Earth mama angel baby organic lanolin-free nipple balm, which was highly recommended by friends, coconut oil, which my.midwife recommended, and lanolin as a last resort.

    Coconut oil is what I use! Lanolin did nothing to soothe my sore nipples

    I've heard good things about the coconut oil but have been told by my doctor not to use anything scented or that has taste to it. Something about it confusing the baby and not to have any other tastes in their mouth other then the milk itself. I'm hoping I can just use my colostrum/ milk to moisturize but just wanted something to keep handy. I guess I could always clean off whatever I'm using on my nipples before i breastfeed. Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

    I actually got a perscription for lanolin from my dr. So insurance would pay for it :) It works great for me. You could also just try non-petroleum jelly. Your nips will eventually toughen up just hang in there :)

    Yes, lanolin needs to be wiped off before baby feeds! That's why bamboobies' boob ease organic nipple balm is the best! 5 ingredients, lanolin and petroleum free, and organic! best stuff out there!

    @SBbabyonboard it has cocoa butter on it so it smells like chocolate. You don't have to wipe it off before feedings either. Unless baby doesn't like the taste but it's completely safe. It's worked pretty well for me.

    I'm using breast milk after I pump or nurse, I just massage it into my areola and nipple area and let it air dry

    Thanks for all the advice ladies!! Will get the butter you suggested @ashleytiff, but hopefully won't have to use too often and that my breast milk will moisturize enough!! :)

    The back of the medela lanolin cream says it does not need to be wiped off before feeding.

    Is this mis-leading?

    I use coconut oil and an organic based lanolin free cream, but with the coconut oil I wipe off the lanolin free I do not wipe off.
