Vaginal pressure

I'm 32 weeks and have been feeling vaginal pressure for about a week. It feels like a tampon is 1/2 out and it has to stay there. It's different from the round ligament pain. Are any of you ladies experiencing this too? I feel like it's a bit early, but maybe it's just the uterus dropping little by little? Does anybody have any insight or thoughts?

Re: Vaginal pressure

  • I experienced this with my first, but it was more intense as I was further along. It felt like someone stepping on me down there! I had it maybe once so far this time, about a week or so ago (so around 30 weeks). Last time, it was because DD was getting ready to be born and was sitting low. Not sure about what/if it means this time.

  • My baby has been head down since 20 weeks and head down and low since 26 weeks. I'm 30 weeks now and for a little over a week I've been having pain and pressure in my hooha. I have no idea what it is but have a Drs appointment on Friday, so if you haven't found out by then I'll let you know what my Dr said. I hope it doesn't mean baby is ready, it's way too early! I do know I'm at risk for preterm labor though, high bp and lower fluids.
  • @TeacherMom210 at what point did you feel the pressure and how many weeks along were you when she was born?

@AmandaNacora yes, let me know. I'll post if I end up calling my MD about it
  • @babycap15 I have the same pain, I'm 32 weeks 4 days, my dr said it's because the baby is head down pushing on my cervix. And that my pelvis is spreading and getting ready. There isn't much you can do about it besides take a Tylenol and a warm bath, or you can try a pelvic support belt, I find them uncomfortable and no helpful but you might like them. Unfortunately my dr said that feeling will just get worse the closer to delivery you get.
  • @mrstzouganos I was told the baby was head down also. Does this mean it might be sooner than 40 weeks? Or not necessarily? Did the dr say anything else? Thanks for your response.
  • I've had intense pressure in my pelvic area for a couple weeks. I'm 31 weeks tomorrow. When I got checked last week the pressure is caused by baby being head down and getting ready.

It does not in anyway mean that the baby will be here sooner then 40 weeks though. That is what my OB said.
  • @babycap15 My dr didn't say anything about my LO arriving early due to the pressure, however he will be here at 38 weeks due to GD. The dr said that's it very normal to feel a lot of pressure.
  • With every pregnancy I've had (this is 4th) I've felt that pressure earlier and earlier.
It's most likely what everyone else has already said: your baby is just "dropping" or head down. It really shouldn't make a difference in when your baby comes. I felt extreme pressure when I was pregnant with my daughter (#2) at roughly 30 weeks and had her at 39 weeks after a membrane sweep. Hope you get some relief!

  • I have had the same issue and my is due to varicose veins in the vulva and surrounding bikini area. If you look with a mirror you definitely will be able to see the veins if they are present. I'm 32 weeks along and was just at the doctor monday. She said it's from standing and the constant pressure. I'm to wear a support belt and compression hose. (Which definitely take off some pressure ) , don't sit with my legs crossed and try sitting more often. She also did say the babies head was dropping down and wasn't helping the matter. Hope this helps!
  • I also have vericose veins down there. It's awful because there is so much pressure and I am swollen all the time. Certain things make it worse to like bending over. By the end of the day it can be pretty unbearable.

Check with a mirror! I have a mildly prolapsed bladder and it causes some pressure down there along with frequent urge to pee!! I looked for myself and it is actually almost visible if I'm sitting and the vaginal opening is "open". I discovered it while attempting an at home wax. :( good luck and hope we all get some relief soon!
  • Oh yep I'm feeling this, it feels like I've been kicked down there especially when getting up from a chair or bed. Bambino is head down so I guess it's that too. Feel like I'm walking like a cowboy!
  • I have it too it was so painful at first I went to er they couldn't figure out why I had the pain, my baby is breech and has been so it's not his head and I wasn't having contractions , later when I saw my Dr he explained it was just the cartilage between my pelvic region gets inflamated, so he told me to sit often and if I know I'm going to be walking around and he said it will only get worse
  • @babycap15 Just saw your question. Probably like 35 or 36 weeks? I don't really remember too well. DD#1 was born at 39 weeks.

  • Had my doctors visit today, all the pressure and pain is just from LO being head down and low. But cervix is tightly shut and everything looks good, so there's no reason to believe she will come early. She did say it might get worse the further along I get which I'm so not looking forward to! Already walking the grocery store kills me and I've got 10 more weeks to go :(
