And now we play the waiting game

Total AW post so advance apologies. I just ate a big piece of carrot cake, downed some diet Pepsi and had some gummies so now I get to wait and see if I can get this baby to move ( I'd lay down but I'm at work). I had one of those horrid dreams I just can't shake. In the dream I had a miscarriage (I'm 24 weeks tomorrow) I was holding my little baby and no matter what I do I can't get past it, so of course perfect time for baby to suddenly stop moving when they've been moving like crazy recently. If all else fails I'll have to go to L&D to get checked out. Anyway I know so many of us post this kind of thing I just needed to vent it out to someone other than my poor hubby, who has become pretty accustomed to my freak outs!

Re: And now we play the waiting game

  • I know that feeling! I had a day like that 2 weeks ago and it is not fun. Sorry that you're going through this anxiety and I hope your little one starts dancing around asap!

  • I have had this, this week (not dreams, but not felt as much movement) I got in touch with my midwife after 2 days and as soon as I made the call LO went crazy and hasn't stopped since! My midwife said this can be quite normal as baby settles into a pattern etc. If u do feel worried at any point it's always good to check in with your midwife or care provider - just for peace of mind
  • Hopefully the sugar will work. Just remember the more you walk around the more likely you are to lull the baby to sleep. Try to shake off the dream and focus on something else.

Ha well I pretty much walk all day here at work so here's hoping they're just tired!
  • I know you're at work but could you go and lay down anywhere?! If you down a cold drink and lie down on your left side that should encourage movement. My midwife has always told me to do that in previous pregnancies and it's worked. Five minutes in a staff room?

If you're really worried, call your doctor. Don't spend all day worrying :)
  • I had a similar experience this week, Sprout went from being super active to apparently nothing, just a couple of flutters that could easily have been tummy growls. I was really active that day so didnt think much of it because he's always quieter when I'm busy, but the next morning he was still quiet. A call to the OB later and I'm on my way in to the office. I have never felt so relieved as when I heard that heartbeat on the doppler. They did a quick u/s just to make sure everything was fine, and Sprout was dancing away in there, down to full-on pelvic thrusts (which were hilarious to hear the Lebanese OB describe in his brilliant accent), but I couldn't feel any movement.
For your own sanity, call your OB and see if they can see you just to make sure everything is ok.
  • I think this is fairly common. My LO had a pattern where he would move when I woke up, when I ate, and when I went to bed. Then, he quit. I have PGAL brain, so of course I panicked. Luckily, I have a doppler, so that helps. I also did some Googling, and everything says that at this early, we can't really expect too much regularity. Doctors don't ask that we count kicks until 3rd tri, so irregular movement is pretty normal. Good luck today, and try to relax!

    ^^^ what she said!
Please try not to worry. When you get home from work you need a nice cold drink, then lie on your side and concentrate on feeling that baby wriggle!

They have there lazy days just like we do. This drove me crazy with DD2 I had PGAL brain and it would worry me. The more active you are the harder it is to feel them. If you can't lay down try and sit at an angle towards your left side.

Thanks ladies! I have about 3 hours left of my shift so I'm going to go home afterwards and see if I can get 'em to move. Unfortunately living in a small province in Canada means that there are like 4 OBs for the entire capital city so even a call probably wouldn't result in much. If it continues into tomorrow I may have to go to the hospital, though my work probably won't appreciate it! Tonight my husband can take care of supper caused mind is pretty much going to be on this little one!

I second this. My LO is very similar, moves the most in the morning and when I go to bed, but not always! Good luck! Sending relaxing thoughts your way :-)
  • Just adding support, I know it can be nerve-racking when you don't feel anything for awhile.  PP's who commented about regularity and still being early are right, they are still pretty small in there.  I'm 24 weeks too, and sometimes I feel like I haven't had a good kick all day.  I usually get the big thumps at night when I am sitting down and can really concentrate.  And even then, some nights I feel like he or she is kicking like a maniac and some nights are really calm.  Good luck, try not to worry!
  • Iced cold water makes my baby bump around every time. I feel bad for her cause I drink it all day long. She never gets to rest!
  • I think we all get a little worried whether we want to admit it or not. Another way to make them wake up for you is to put a cool or cold ice pack on your stomach. I did that the other day since I was stuck in a car for 8 hours and was worried. I had an ice pack on my swollen ankle and put it on my tummy for a few seconds. He woke right up for me. :)
  • My baby wakes up when I let the dog lay next to my stomach.. Maybe he wants to pet the dog lol
  • On the one hand, I resent having an anterior placenta because I want to feel all this movement, dammit! On the other hand, it's most certainly a blessing because I know myself and I'd be getting all anxious with each bebe nap. All in good time...
  • Mine gets annoyed when I poke around at my belly, he keys be know he wasn't happy I woke him up
  • @flas how's it going? Did the sugar help at all?
  • I had a dream like that a few weeks back. In the dream the baby just disappeared, she was just gone. And for a whole day I was terrified because I couldn't feel her move, even though I knew it was normal not to be feeling her consistently yet. I laid in bed for hours when I got home from work. Just before I really had a melt down, she started going bananas. I'm sorry you had that kind of dream, I know you just want to see inside your belly and make sure LO is A-Ok. Hope your sugar and fizz worked in getting a response!
  • I had this around week 20 (now going on 22), I didn't feel LO for almost 3 days. Stay calm, if something as wrong there would be other signs - that's what got me thru. I saw my midwife about 2 days after I got feeling back and she explained movement is pretty sporadic until the 26th- 28th week also that baby might have moved into me and as a result I just couldn't feel the movement. Be well!
  • Coffee always gets my little one moving!

I know what you mean about the nightmares, it's unfair that we're already worried about the lives we're carrying but that pregnancy also gifts us with vivid dreams that stick with us! I hope you have better dreams in the future!
