Maternity Halloween Wedding Costume?

I know, it's only July and I'm way ahead of things here.

My sister is getting married on Halloween.  It's a Tim Burton themed costume party.  I'm the best "man" in the wedding.  I had a costume all planned out, but now there's no way I'll fit in it.  Any ideas on comfy costumes that I can consider?  The wedding is heavy on Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, and The Corpse Bride references but any Tim Burton is fair game.

I'm starting to think I should just go as the Penguin from Tim Burton's Batman...  :-/

Re: Maternity Halloween Wedding Costume?

  • It's hard to say how big any of us will be at the end of October but I think if you went with an empire waisted dress as part of whichever costume character you were (ie. Alice) that it would be flexible for exact size and still fit with the theme of the wedding. Does your sister have a character that she would prefer you to dress up as since you will be the Best "man"?

  • Hmmm...are you going for a male or female character? If a male, Ed Wood would be funny since he cross dressed and you may be able to closet shop most of it. What were you going to do before?

Wow, what a fantastic wedding idea! So fun! If you want to go as a female character, just hike up the waistline on the dress like PPs have said. If you want to incorporate your bump, you could get another bridesmaid to go as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. You could also go as the Mad Hatter and just leave the suit jacket open.

  • My boss had a Nightmare Before Christmas themed wedding, so I asked him. He suggested oogie boogie or lock shock and barrel (that might be a little hard).

  • Since you're the best "man" you could be the mayor, he's really round in the belly.

For Halloween I'm probably gonna be a jacolantern.
  • I love the movie "9".... that could be cute to pull off.

That sounds like such an awesome wedding!! No advice, just wanted to say that :)
  • I was totally thinking red queen! You could have so much fun with the makeup and the costume could easily be altered around a bump.

Most of the characters look like this. They're just like small rag dolls(9 in total). But I think you could easily dress it up and put a spin on it. I recommend watching the movie, too. It's awesome.

I know its probably not something most people can visualize but in my mind I'm seeing a sandy/burlap colored dress with an oversized (faux) zipper going up the front - Or crazy buckles across. Pretty steam punkish.

  • I can totally work with that @KaraEpp16 ! I actually have a bunch of burlap, I could make a speampunk-ish dress out of the burlap, leaving room for potential belly...  You might be on to something.

I'll definitely watch the movie sometime.  I'll have to now, for inspiration.

I think it's a tie between something from 9 and the Red Queen now.  Thanks everyone!
  • Yeah, you have to watch the movie. I thought it was a fantastic Tim Burton film. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing :)
