Any other Military Spouses?

First and foremost, OPSEC! Please don't give any personal information including location, pay grade/rank, job specialty, unit, or any other obviously privileged information.

So, on to my post....

I'm a Mommy of 2 girls and am currently pregnant with our 3rd. My DH is gone (darn deployment) and I'm having a rough time. Anyone else in a similar boat?

I figure we can keep each other company and encourage each other.

  • Yay! I'm glad there's someone here for me to relate to. As for the OPSEC I feel like it needs to be put out there. Too many people these days get too comfy and forget that we are an important part of keeping our Military safe. In a world of technology, you never know who's reading what. Terrorism is everywhere and they use any and every angle they can. Safety is paramount. :)

My hubby is a Marine. He was never gone for any part of pregnancy before. He deployed for the whole first year of our first baby girl's life. I'm really not liking him being gone while I'm pregnant. Especially with the morning sickness. I'm miserable. :(

While DH deployed for the first year of our eldest' life, I went home and lived with his Mom (who lived 10 min from my family). That was an experience. Lol But I am glad I didn't have to be alone. This time, I don't have the option of moving home for a while. Nowhere to go. Plus, nobody wants a pregnant lady and her 2 littles in their home. Lol Not that I blame them.

Hi Ladies. I'm a Navy wife as well. My husband will be deploying shortly and won't be back until baby is about 7 months. Thankfully I am home so I will have plenty of support but this is our first and am certainly nervous about him being gone.

We're living in our hometown now and I'm actually missing the military community! I feel like I spend more time explaining than I do actually getting to talk to someone. Also already frustrated using Tricare off base.

If either of you need to talk don't hesitate.
  • Hi ladies! I am the wife of an AF member and we are stationed overseas. My husband will be here for the birth but might deploy a few months after (crossing fingers that he doesn't). My challenge is more of the language barrier. I have chosen to go with the hospital off base vs the military hospital. So far I am extremely happy with my choice as I am getting top of the line prenatal care. I will have my second ultrasound with the hospital on the economy before the military one can get me in for my first appointment.

Hi ladies, I'm also a Navy wife :) This is our first pregnancy, and I'm glad that he is able to be home, as my family lives on the other side of the country. Thus far, my job has also been pretty accommodating, so I appreciate that. Currently 8w2d, but don't have my first ultrasound until 11w2d. It was originally scheduled for 9w2d but since DH will be out of town visiting family, we decided to push it back until his return.
  • Hey ladies! I'm so glad we are not alone in this. :)

I'm happy to be here for all of you if/when you need encouragement.

@Adyer7 I'm sorry your hubby will be gone so long. It's so important to have a support system especially with a baby on the way. I know what you mean about missing the military community. When my DH deployed and I moved home for that period of time, I felt so alone. Nobody understood. They tried to, but you just can't unless you've lived it. I'm here if ya need someone else who understands your situation from the military spouse perspective.

My husband got out in May but I had our first 20 days after he deployed. And as I'm sure most of you know, he was away at training the majority of the time leading up to it. So he missed most of my pregnancy. I not apart of that life any more but I remember all too well what it was like.
  • Hey ladies. I'm Courtney. I'm pregnant with my fourth baby. I'll be 11 weeks Monday. My husband is in the Air Force. He's been in 8 years this month. My husband was deployed when I gave birth to my first and came home when he was 4 months. He deployed 2 months after my second was born. Luckily he didn't deploy anytime when I was pregnant with my third or after she was born. My husband just recently got back from a deployment in January so we are in the clear for this pregnancy and birth. He's deployed many times so I'm definitely use to it. We live in South Cali. I have son who is 6, and girls 4 and 2.5 years old. :)

A friend of mine gave birth while we were stationed overseas and she had a hard time with the care on base. Off base wasn't an option there. Glad you're able to get the care you want. Maybe that will help you pick up the language quickly!

Oh my goodness that's a lot of deployments in 8 years! And a lot of babies ;) My husband has been in for 8 years and this is his first deployment.

Hey there! My husband is a Marine! He has been in for almost 6 years and is planning to reenlist until he retires. This is our first baby, and we are so excited (and nervous). He will be leaving about 2 weeks after the baby is born for a few months. I'm a third grade teacher and will have to finish out the school year, so I'm really nervous about that time working all day and my husband being gone.
This is one time I really wish we lived closer to family. After he gets back, we'll be moving to a new duty station with our little one!
  • Hey ladies !
First it's so nice to have military spouses to relate to and support each other!

My hubby is in the AF and was gone for 4 month of our firsts. Now there is a good chance he will be gone another 4 months right after our second is born. ( this is nothing compared to a lot of you) but with our first I was home and had support. This time around I am away from home that makes me super nervous. The main thing I am nervous for is going into labor and not being able to get a hold of him (his school is very strict about phones) Or not having family out here to be at the hospital. I just don't want to be alone delivering a baby :(

Trying to stay positive through it all, and I'll send positive vibes to all of you ladies as well!

I do not miss this lol. Hearing all the deployment stuff. After 9 years hubby had enough lol. Hubs was deployed every year the first 3 years of our marriage and that did not include training. When we were dating he was deployed to a spot where we could only communicate through snail mail. Nobody gets it until they've lived it. You all are tough ladies. It isn't always easy, that's for sure.

My husband spent 11 years in the army and is now in the army reserves. This is our first baby and he may be going out of state for training at any point during the pregnancy or after the birth, we are still waiting to hear when. Fortunately, no deployments will be happening. Great to see some other people who can relate!

In his civ job he works 12 hour days and most weekends, so he is still not home much.

Lol yes lots of babies. I love babies. But this baby will be our last baby. I wanted my children young and fairly close in age. Yes, my husband has deployed many times. On the top of my head I think it's been around 5 if not 6 times. But we both personally like the military life. My dad was in the military and my FIL is currently active army. One thing we have been lucky about is we have not been re-stationed. But soon my husband is considering doing another job in the AF. My husband is planning to make a career out of it as well. But congrats ladies. Would love to get to know you ladies more :)
  • my husband is eight years army and we're having our first! we've been married five years...almost six. wow. anyways nice to meet y'all :)

Army wife, pregnant with 3rd baby :)
My husband was gone during my whole 2nd pregnancy and missed her birth (as well as our first's 1st birthday)
He's gone now, but will be home soon.

Best of luck to you all!
  • I love the support system that is built into the military lifestyle. Regardless of time in service, branch, duty station, number of kids, etc.; we are all here for and supporting one another.

Now if morning sickness would just go away, we could maybe enjoy a little of this pregnancy. Am I right?!

Maybe not for ya'll, but for me, I need to be feeling better and soon. My 2 kids I already have are running ramped while I'm inspecting the inside of the toilet.

Plus, hubby should return shortly after the first trimester "fun" wears off. Lucky him, he got to miss the misery. Lol
  • I am an Army wife transitioning to the Navy! This is our first child and I have ZERO experience with the Navy. I've been through several deployments with the Army, but never with a baby, so I cannot relate. But you can do it! Just stay busy, keep the kids busy, and network with other spouses in your unit. I was also an Army brat who survived a few deployments with my dad before the days of e-mail and Skype. My job involves working with military children and we're always doing fun projects to send to deployed parents, so let me know if you want any ideas for the kids. Thanks for doing a military post and reminding everyone about OPSEC--vital to our nation's security and not to be taken lightly.
  • Oh and I forgot to ask for any tips on how to survive a move while pregnant. We have to report to our first Navy duty station soon, but my hubby will be in school while all the moving is going on. I've done moves alone before, but NOT pregnant. Of course, I know the Navy is moving the bulk of our stuff, but there is always the irreplaceable items like grandma's china that you don't want them touching. My husband freaks out if I lift a milk jug. Maybe I'll wait until he leaves for school before I do any more packing. I still workout regularly, so that should help. Any tips on moving while pregnant???
  • Hello! My DH and I are both active duty AF. I'm 11wks 5days with our first :) he might deploy soon...but hoping not yet. I got pregnant at the right time because I don't have to deploy or do pt a year after birth, which is such a relief. Also, they are considering extending the maternity leave from 6 to 18weeks for the AF, since navy and marines got approved 1 July. Congrats to everyone and THANK YOU for the love and support to the military.

Navy wife here! We are brand new to the military! My husband is in ODS now and will be gone for 5 weeks! Currently 11 weeks pregnant
  • I am going to throw a wrench into this but my husband is active duty Coast Guard for the last 11 years and this is our first. Been together for 6+ years and married for 1 year in August. Thought it would take me a while to get pregnant but I got off the pill and instantly got pregnant. Happy I'm not the only one on here that understands the military lifestyle. It isn't for everyone and only the strongest of women can handle what we do.
  • Hello all! My husband has been in the army for 8+ years! We've been married almost 12 years. We've known each other since we were 12 & 16! It's crazy to think about. We've been through a 15 month deployment, a 9 month deployment, and a 7 month deployment all to Afghanistan. He was deployed for the birth of our 2nd and 3rd child. We are pregnant with our 4th, and I'm beyond thrilled he will be home for our last! I grew up an air force brat, and am an army wife, so the constant unknowns and hurry up and wait lifestyle is all I've known! We are due February 24th and are super excited! We have 2 girls & a boy, so we'll see what this one turns out to be! It's great meeting you all!

Been there, done that! Weeks and weeks of no communication and having to suck it up and realize that no news is good news!

  • Hi Navy wife here. So glad to find this thread. My husband has been in almost five years and in that time we have lived in 6 states and not a single navy base (we've been to marine and army). When we got 4 year orders I cried. We have been ttc since we were married in 2010 and finally got our bfp. Thankfully we won't have to deal with a deployment at this duty station, but I have been through 12 with my dad. I know it's not the same but I feel a little bit more prepared than some having been a navy brat my whole life.
