For those that have already delivered...

...did you get an abdominal binder of some sort from the hospital or pre-ordered/purchased?

Wondering if I should pre-purchase a belly binder? I basically just want the assistance of something to help my uterus get back to normal and support for getting up and about. I don't expect or want it to lose weight or fit into pre-preg clothes.

  • I got one from the hospital but I also bought one that would help me slim down and also support. I used the one from the hospital first because it was more spacious and the one that I bought is for couple weeks after.
  • Did the hospital give you one even if you didn't have a csection?
  • @audi681 thanks... Good to know. I'm delivering at a big hospital known for its mother & baby department. All of the hospitals send their high risk patients there. Here's to hoping for some mommy swag as well!

Oh, I forget, did you have a vaginal or cesarean delivery?

  • I delivered vaginally at the largest womans hospital in the state. Got sent home with diapers, peri bottle, pads, etc but no binder.

I also got sent home with all the above mentioned items but no binder. I delivered at my local hospital.
  • I had a c section and they gave me a binder. But the surgical drape adhesive gave me a rash across my abdomen and I can't even wear a shirt and I get irritated so I haven't worn it. Just hanging out in pj bottoms and a nursing bra. Stylish. And itchy.
The rash has been 100% the hardest part of the recovery.
  • @corndogrobot, my husband is allergic to everything including most adhesives. He has heart problems and every time we are in the hospital for him and they do ekgs on him he looks like he has been attacked by and octopus!

I have not delivered yet, but I asked about the binder. I will be prescribed one, but I am having a C section.
  • I got sent home with everything except a binder. Your uterus will shrink quickly if your nursing
  • Thanks for the info ladies!

  • Yep! My hospital just gave me a belly binder, but I ended up getting a c section. I heard some people say you just need to ask for one if your hospital doesn't just offer it.
I know for c section, I couldn't get around without it.
I also bought the C Panty to wear under clothes when going into public.
  • I delivered naturally and had ordered a bellefit corset prior to going to the hospital. I was released at 24 hours and started wearing it the next day. My belly has shrunk a lot and the support it provides is amazing. I actually already ordered a smaller size because of how quickly my stomach has gone down.

They're expensive but I say totally worth it.
  • @jacmariec what brand did u order?
  • I gave birth (naturally) exactly one week ago, and by today my belly is almost gone. Before pregnancy I had completely flat belly, now it looks like small fat layer is still there. First days it was pretty big but got smaller every single day. Haven't been using anything, but obviously it depends from one body to another.

How much weight did you put on??
  • Scheduled c section and I received a binder
  • @smccall3838 I ordered bellefit double closure. It's amazing. I needed help with it at first but now it slips right on. It came within 2 days of ordering.

The website is awesome and has a sizing guide that was accurate for me.
  • @jacmariec when you got yours did it look really small? I used the sizing guide (multiple times just to be sure) and was told to get a size small. It just looks so tiny! I was rather small before pregnancy but I just can't imagine fitting into it afterwards. I'm still pregnant though so obviously haven't been able to try it on
  • I delivered as a repeat cesarean and was sent home with a binder. The first birth I was sent home with a binder as well. I'm not sure if the cesarean matters or not or if they send everyone home with one but each birth a binder was included in the goodies that I went home with.
