Sneakers!

So we'll be going on vacation in 2 weeks and I'm going to need some comfortable walking shoes! I'm a flip flop kind of gal and they're just not going to cut it on the boardwalk. I have a great pair of running shoes, but am looking for something a little more casual-yet supportive. Anyone have sneakers they love?!

Re: Sneakers!

  • Not sneakers, but have you thought about Tom's? I live in them. They're so comfortable and cute and more versatile than sneakers, IMO.

  • Serious comfort, sketchers go walk 3, I have two pairs and even convinced DH to get them. They're the best! I wear the teeny tiny socks with them and it's perfect.
  • I just bought these sketchers for my trip to Vegas. I'm a flip flop girl too. But not there.

  • I need to watch this thread. We are going to an awesome zoo at the end of August and need something other than flip flops or my stinky work sneakers.

I always forget about Tom's! Do they hold up pretty well? I've also been looking at the sketchers go walk but it seems like they are out in my size everywhere-including online! Booo
  • Toms. I bought a pair before going to Spain and they were great. And we walked miles every day, up and down hills and uneven pavement.
  • @TVL25 try DSW if sketchers are out in their own stores.
  • You could also try fila skela toes. The only con is they have toes so that is a little weird at first. But they are very lightweight, I'm talking a few ounces a piece. They are waterproof too. I personally like that I can wiggle my toes in them. I've ran and hiked miles in them and kayaked and they've held up wonderfully
  • @TVL25 Yeah, mine have held up beautifully. I have 5 pairs right now and they just get better with age. I bought my first pair three or so years ago and they're nowhere near retirement. They stretch a little, so I definitely recommend against sizing up. I'm typically an 8.5 wide, but I buy 8 in Tom's. This summer I've been living in my crochet Tom's because they're airy and cute and let these hot preggo feet breathe. The support really is amazing and they're totally worth the price tag, especially considering how a pair is donated for every pair you buy.

  • I love my toms! I wore them during our honeymoon in Italy. I also have a pair of Nike Frees. They are so light and extra comfy if you're looking for a more sporty look. I live in runners/sneakers!
  • Speaking of honeymoon, I'm legit considering getting married in some of the bridal Tom's.

  • I have 3 pairs of TOMS and love them! I also bought a pair of Sketchers Sport memory foam slip ons.  Similar styling to a pair of TOMS.  I actually found them last year at Target.  I believe they still make them.  They were marketed as a Sketchers for Target type of shoe line, if that makes sense.  They were only $25 versus the actual Sketchers slip ons that you'd find at Kohls or on their website for $60-70.
  • Toms are totally he best ever. I agree they get better with age and also agree that they stretch a little so get a .5 size smaller. I wear a 9 so I buy a 8.5. I will say that e first few times u wear them they take a minute to stretch to your foot but after that u will love them! Next bests thing to flip flops
  • Don't remember the actual name of the style but I have sketchers slip-ons that I've had since college. They've been my go-to shoes for nearly ten years and they're still amazing. Idk about your feet, but I pronate SUPER bad and have SUPER high arches, so Tom's are cute and ok for short walks for me, but don't have the padding and structure that I need for a long haul. They are way more stylish than my sketchers, though. :P

Thanks ladies! My sister swears by her Sperry's for comfort. I ordered a pair yesterday but for the price I could almost buy 2 of the pair you're most suggesting! I also love that Tom's donates a pair for every pair sold, definitely a plus! For those with sketchers go walk, do they run true to size?
  • If anything I think they are pretty forgiving, def don't order big. I ordered mine in a wide and then went down half a size.

This! TOMs are my absolute favourite! The leather inside really forms to your feet. I have a pair that is about a year old and I have walked all over Europe in them on uneven cobblestone streets. No back pain, no foot pain! They are glorious!

ETA: Also wear the little socks with them or they will start really smelling.
  • Sanuk flip flops are a dream! I wear them everywhere and they are super comfortable!

  • @vvitchhazel I wore heels for the ceremony and pics but as soon as we got to the reception, I changed into the off white crocheted toms. Best decision ever!
  • @ChipMonster That's a great idea... I think that's what I'll do!

While I saw it was a UO yesterday, I wore 4" heels for the ceremony and changed into my coach sneakers for the reception. Also bought all of my girls coach sneakers to wear as well... Highly recommend it!

I've never worn socks in any of my Toms and they aren't stinky... Really!

  • Yes to Toms! I have 4 pair and wear them all very frequently. Some of them are 5+ years old, they hold up great. Also, not everyone's style, but Birkenstocks are amazingly comfortable and will last forever. I've had my pair 10 years and they barely look worn.

I love Tom's too. I have a pair if high top Seavees from Ross that have great support and are pretty much the only shoes that don't give me pain if I walk a lot. They're cute too! These are the ones I have but mine came with cuter laces (see pic): https://www.loehmanns.com/product/athletic/703101-2325077/seavees-seavees-army-issue-high-womens.html
