I had 3 pre-natal appointments and I still haven't seen the doctor. First two times I saw the NP and the last appointment just someone that weighed me in and took my blood pressure. Is this normal or am I'm going to a really bad clinic?
I'm an FTM as well, and I've seen my doctor, and then my new doctor ( had a switch because I am high risk) since I took the pee stick test and that was like 14 weeks ago. I think that you should ask them about their policies about when you should see a doctor. If they can't supply you with logical explanations about why you have yet to see an OB, I suggest you look into another facility. That's just my 2 cents. I hope everything goes well for you, your LO and loved ones. But, please don't except mediocre medical care if you do not have to.
I've always seen my doctor, but my friend didn't meet her doctor until she was close to the end of her pregnancy. She would always see the NP too. I guess it just depends on where you go and how they run things.
I always see my doctor ( with my 1st and this pregnancy) even if it's just for a few minutes to go over measurements and any new things and have a chance to ask him any questions. I would ask for sure cause I feel like the more you see your dr and get to know them the more comfortable you are for delivery.
I only saw NPs until my 36w appt with DS, when I was referred to the surgical ob/gyn to schedule my c section since DS was frank breech. I knew the delivering doctor would be whoever was on call when I went into labor, so the NPs were fine with me.
We have family doctors here. Mine doesn't deliver babies, she sent a referral off to a baby doctor, who I now see. Our appointments usually go fairly quick, the nurses weigh me, then the Dr comes in, checks my blood pressure, measures my uterus, uses the Doppler to hear the heartbeat. But one of my app my Dr got called into delivery, so the nurses took me in and did all the regular stuff the Dr would do. Then I had to do a follow up 3 days later with my Dr to make sure the nurses covered everything.
I totally agree. Its very important that u get acquainted with ur Dr as much as I can to help with questions. Good luck
No. I promise you will not care who is at the business end during labor. NPs are great and honestly, my NP spends way more time with me than my OB. She's reassuring and comforting. I love my OB, but she's got a million things on her plate and just doesn't have the time.
I would check with their policies. This is my 4th pregnancy and with each one I've seen the OB during visits. My current office has 5 and they rotate each visit so I will have met each one before delivery day.
It really depends on availability, I find. I haven't seen my doc since I've been pregnant. I think I have an appointment with her next month? I know mine is affiliated with a big hospital so she bounces location to location through out the week. Doesn't really bother me, though, since they're all SO nice and the NP's and others are more of who I'll see at actual delivery since I don't know which doctor will be on duty that day/ night but I already know nearly everyone else.
I went to a big hospital in Birmingham with my first son. There were 8 OB doctors on rotation. I never met the man who delivered my son until it was time to push. I hated it! I hated not having a good connection and being unsure and having someone who didn't know my birth plan, etc. If you have a better option I would go for it. Nothing to be done lightly. It's your baby and your health! I ended up having a terrible delivery where I tore and now need a c section with baby #2 and I'm suffering from complications. Best of luck to you and hope you find someone awesome!
Re: Still haven't seen my doctor.
Are the NP or CNM?
