12 hr false labor? 39 weeks FTM

On Monday my doctor said I was 80% effaced and 3cm and my waters were bulging. By 5 am Wednesday I lost my mucus plug and felt some pain. By noon Wednesday I was having contractions 10 min apart so left work and went home. Then they were 6 to 8 minutes then almost to 5 but then they started slowing down. Some were pretty intense. However they tapered off around 12 am. so I went to sleep. At 4 am I was leaking fluid and wasn't feeling baby or getting my usual response from him. L&D told me to come in and they checked him and me. His heart was strong but they agreed he wasn't moving aa much as they would like so they did an ultrasound. Everything checked out and he is healthy. They also said I was still at 3cm and that my waters were in tact so checked for a yeast infection (neg) so said maybe it was trailing mucus that was leaking. I was so exhausted after all those sleepless hours and pain that I don't understand what is happening if it's not the real thing. I feel pressure down there and it's hard to walk but today it's been quiet. I normally have Braxton's all day and today not even those! Wednesday was the first time I ever had intense pain and frequency with contractions but the hospital still called that practice. I just hope he comes soon I can't take the false alarm!

    That's exactly what happened to me with my last labor. It happened again the very next night and quit. And then the third day it didn't stop until I delivered. So your labor may just be right around the corner. They usually call it Prodromal Labor. It sucks but whatever gets baby here is great. So Good luck! Here's hoping that your labor is soon!

    Yes the same thing is happening to me. Except I get contractions all night and then they disappear in the morning. I also thought I was leaking, but apparently not. Today my doctor tells me I'm no more dialated than last week (2 cm) despite days of contractions. It's so frustrating I cry all the time, then I cry some more for being selfish and wanting baby out. My rational side says baby will come when it's ready.... But I am so done with this maybe/maybe-not labour. ... The texts from every women I know aren't helping the situation either.

    Sounds like prodromal labor to me.  This is common if the baby was in an unfavorable position to begin with (her torso on your right side, her chin not tucked completely, etc.) and the contractions serve to rotate her so that she can more easily slide through your pelvis.  Your body halts the contractions (temporarily) so that you can get some rest.  Sounds like they'll resume soon… and you'll have your baby in your arms!  Best of luck!!

    Thanks for the encouragement. I had never heard of prodromal labor but it sounds like I have it. Last night I had about 5 hours of contractions and then they stopped. Then I finally slept through the night for the first time in 3 days (a whole 10 hrs) and woke up today feeling great. I also lost what looked like my plug again. My baby does like my right side so that could be it. Hoping to meet him soon but at least I know I'm not crazy!!
