FTM need tips!

FTM here and looking for some advice. I have a very hard time putting my 3 week old to sleep at night in her bassinet. She sometimes sleeps in it during the day, but at night it is so tough as her crying would wake up the whole neighborhood. I have tried swaddling her, a pacifier and waiting for her to be asleep to put her in.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: FTM need tips!

  • Will she sleep anywhere else (like is this a bassinet problem or just a general sleeping problem)?

Does she start crying immediately, or is it after a bit?  When she falls asleep before you put her in it, when does she wake up crying?

  • Yes, she sleeps great on us and also sleeps in her mamaroo.

When I put her in the bassinet, she will be ok for less than an hour, then start crying and not stop. I want her to get used to the bassinet at night, but not sure what else to do. I think it might be because there is too much room in the bassinet.

    Thanks for your advice.
  • Does she have reflux? Mine was the same until we discovered she has a reflux issue.
  •  Is your bassinet flat? Most babies that young won't sleep flat. I know you want her to get used to sleeping in a certain spot but you can't really force that. Young babies want to feel secure and cuddled. I'd go with the mamaroo instead. My DD slept in the RnP for the first 4 months and transitioned to her crib no problem.
  • Thanks ladies for the responses. I don't think she has reflux as dr said she is doing really well.

I have started rolling up a small blanket to elevate the bassinet, but so far it only works for like an hour. I am going to try it tonight to see if that works.

I wish she would sleep as good, as she does when she is in my arms.
  • I know it sucks if you have your mind set on her sleeping in the bassinet, but you might just have to let that go and have her sleep in something else for now like a Rock 'n Play.

Also, don't necessarily rule out reflux because we didn't realize DS had it a bit until I started staying in his room while he napped in his crib.  On the monitor we could see him get a little restless about halfway through, but he wouldn't cry and would fall back asleep within a few minutes, so I didn't think much of it.  But now that I'm in there with him, I can see that spits up a bit to the side, but it's clear and dries before he wakes back up again.  Thankfully, DS is really content with just hanging out and drifting back to sleep.  But if not, he would be waking up like your little lady.
  • Thanks for the advice, we are going to try having her sleep in the mamaroo and see if that works.

I am also going to try to take to modify my diet, as i am noticing she is spitting up after some of the feedings.
