Double strollers

Any ladies with some insight? When LO gets here DS will be 18 months and I want a reliable stroller. We like to go on walks, I jog a little bit, and like to rollerblade. But, I also want it to be functional for shopping and running errands. I think I like the look of side by side better than tandem, anyone have experience with either? I am willing to spend a good chunk of money to get something that will last! Thanks in advance!

Re: Double strollers

  • I really like my single Bob revolution and I've heard awesome things about the double Bob. I'll be following this thread for recommendations.

Our MIL just bought us a double bike trailer and the conversion kit to turn it into a jogging stroller and I'm really hoping that'll do the trick for us and we won't have to buy one. I'm not sure how it'll function as a double stroller though, since it's main function is to ride behind a bike. We'll see.

It really depends on the difference in age between your two kids. I spent a ton of time trying them out in the store. I wanted something that was easy to turn and fit through doors. We eventually decided on the Joovy caboose ultralight too. I love it! I mostly use it as a sit and stand (two year age difference) but snapped in the second seat for Disneyland and a few longer days.

I also have a BOB single and a city mini single and a chicco caddy.

  • Ours is the Chicco double but I love it.  I don't run w/ it though as it is bulky and a little heavy but seriously, I use that thing all the time to take to parks and we just took to disney b/c it holds so much stuff...once #3 gets here though I guess it won't.  But at least I don't have to buy another one.

  • We've been through about 10 different strollers and ultimately decided I HATE HATE HATE tandem strollers. They're long and like a bus to turn. Not easier to shop with, at all. The only tandem stroller I would even consider is the city select double.

With that being said, we chose a side by side baby jogger city mini double. Love it for shopping and it fits through all standard doorways.

  • If double strollers are heavy or difficult to maneuver, what about triple strollers? Maybe not worth the hassle? I'll have newborn twins and a toddler that doesn't do well shopping unless in his stroller.
I'm thinking maybe I'll never leave the house again? :(

  • @ss456 I'm with you. With twin nearly 3 year olds and a newborn my plan is to keep the twins in the stroller and wear the baby. Your best bet is to do a double snap and go and let your toddler walk or a city select with a glider board. Triple strollers are a joke.

Are there some sort of foot clamps (I'm thinking like ski boots with locks) to keep him on that board? :)

  • We have a city select right now, which we initially bought so it would convert well for baby #2, but I'm starting to look at other double options. It's heavy, I have a small SUV and it's bulky and a PITA to get in and out of the car, plus would be worse with another seat to deal with. I loved the rear facing option, but I just don't know if I love it enough to keep it as a double or if I should go with something else.

Babywearing! Take the toddler in the single stroller and wear the twins in ring slings or a wrap! So much easier.

I don't think I could babywear two, at least not for very long. I broke a vertebra in my back and can't really carry much weight without aggravating it. :(

Oh, that's rough. Yeah, that may not work, then. :/ I'm sorry. I hope you figure something out! Maybe if your back could handle BW one of them and then you'd only need a double?

  • We have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight Too. It sort of takes up a lot of trunk space but oh well. I will start making my 3 year old (will turn 4 days before this baby is born) walk. Lol! I will be toting 3 kids with me.

I will definitely babywear while grocery shopping because there's really no way around it.

  • We have a BabyTrend Sit N Stand and an InStep Double Jogging Stroller. We primarily use the Sit n Stand for shopping as it is easier to manuever and fit through the aisles in stores than it is with the Jogger (jogger is too wide). We use the jogger for everything else because it is so much easier to push, especially outside on gravel or through grass.

  • i have a britax b-ready which you can buy a second seat for (infant car seat clicks on the top, second toddler seat goes on the bottom- black stroller in photo)- the only issue is that it only goes up to 35lbs and my almost 3 year old is gonna hit that real soon. i also am not sure how much she will enjoy being underneath the infant seat. does anyone have one of these? i was looking at the BOB double- you can apparently buy a contraption where the infant seat can click on one side and your toddler can sit on the other (red stroller in photo). i am loving that idea. i don't want anything where i need to take an infant out of the car seat- i love just snapping them in and going on my way.
  • I was looking at the Mountain Buggy Duet last night. Anyone have experience with it? (Sorry, not trying to hijack!)

  • I've landed on the contours double stroller. It's tandem and I prefer that. I don't want to deal with not fitting through doors or shopping isles. It works with my infant seat. The seats move all around and it folds up nice. I'm in love! https://m.target.com/p/contours-options-elite-tandem-stroller/-/A-17116052

We are also looking at the mountain buggy duet. We are expecting twins and also have a 2.5 year old. My plan is to keep the toddler and one of the babies in the stroller at the beginning while wearing the other baby in a carrier. My toddler loves the stroller, and I feel like it will be easier to keep him contained since I don't want to be chasing him down the aisles at target or whatever. I'm also going to get the free rider attachment for him and a strap attachment for the side of the stroller and try to teach him to hold onto the strap. I figure that for anything that involves a lot of walking we'll probably just bring a single & a double stroller and my husband and I will both push a stroller.

The mountain buggy has great reviews from lucies list and baby guy nyc. Also a friend's sister lives in New Zealand and told her the mountain buggy duet is super popular over there and everyone she knows who has it loves it.

FYI I've heard that the BOB double can sag in the middle. Plus you can't use it for 2 car seats, so that was a deal breaker for me with twins

I want this! (I also plan to use the regular stroller and wear the newborn...) but I know sometimes a double will be nice
  • Here's a more affordable one than the side by side city. On Amazon the city one goes for about $500

I didn't read reviews just putting it out there for a less expensive option
  • We have a Bumbleride Indie double and I love it. We use it for jogging, it has an amazing huge basket underneath (much more room than the Bob), steers really easy and fits through doorways. It also has a riding board, which we will be getting for the oldest. I was really nervous about getting a double but seriously am in love with this one! And it comes in adorable colors.
