Bad receptionist!!!!

Grrrrr!!!! How is a pregnant woman like me supposed to stay calm. I call my gyno for results of an unrelated blood test and the receptionist says oh no those havent come back yet but we do have some results from the hospital. (The hospital where I did all of my genetic testing Materni Ti21).  I ask if they can tell me, she says the doctor will have to call me to discuss the results with me. Now I am freaking out wondering if it is bad new.  DH has been trying to reassure me that she is a receptionist and probably not allowed to give me results, especially those types of results and to calm down. Easier said than done! I was told I would have to wait 2 weeks and it has only been one, so I am really curious to find out what results those are for!! Stress much? I want to drive to my doc's office right now!

  • Loading the player...
  • Labs like to give you a bigger window than needed in case they get slsmmed with urgent. Don't worry they came early. Be glad you might get your call sooner.

  • Man, I'm glad I can access all of my lab results via their website.

It's probably just policy and not bad news. I sure as hell don't want someone with a 10-month admin diploma giving me medical advice or opinions, especially when my emotions are in hyperdrive. Trust me, you don't want to go to a clinuc with a receptionist that WILL tell you lab results.
  • I guess you are right.  I would have been better off if they just said nope your results are not in and that was it.  It's like now that I know they are there I am freaking. No call yet....

  • Receptionists aren't able to give test results for a reason. That's the Drs job especially if you have questions.
  • You wouldn't want to hear bad news from her and not have the answers right there on the phone.

Hopefully, you hear from the doctor soon.

Anytime I call my OB even about something urgent the receptionist takes it down and has the nurse call me back. They don't ever answer questions or any of that. They just make sure they relay the message and set my appointments up for when the doctor asked.
  • I've never been able to get my receptionist to read test results - pretty sure like the others have said it's prohibited. I get the response you get all the time from all sorts of doctors and it has never meant anything bad. Also blood work always comes back early. I highly doubt that could ever mean anything since they don't know the results of the blood work until after it's done--- when you get an MRI and you aren't supposed to find out for a week (but the tech saw something and got the report to the radiologist ASAP and you get it back that day --- that's a different story)--- blood work doesn't lend itself to that kind of situation.
