C Section recovery Stories?

Can you ladies offer me any support stories for C section recovery? Mine was unexpected (Friday 7/10) after 20 hours of being in labor. I was told by the doctor that I was one of her worst C sections as it took almost 5 minutes to get my baby out, normally it is about a 30 second pull out.

I have a bundle of emotions but I am in so much pain and achyness. I am taking meds as prescribed except for the hard stuff. I am clogged and have gas at the same time. It is just a horrible recovery... I need a light at the end of the tunnel!

Re: C Section recovery Stories?

  • I had my second c-section 13 days ago. The recovery this time was tough since they had to go through scar tissue and the tied my tubes as well. The pain is much better now, just need the ibuprofen. I promise it gets better. Just give yourself a break it is major surgery. Sending hugs your way!!

  • I had a c-section last Wednesday. I've been trying to take it easy but also making sure to move around. It was kind of hard coming home because I would see dishes that needed to be put away or rooms that need to be vacuumed, but then I realized that I just don't need to spend my energy on those things right now. DH has been wonderful and is very happy to help, even for the smallest requests.

I do feel it's important to stay on top of the pain though. I was taking Motrin and Percocet when the pain was bad, but the last few days I've been cutting back on the heavier medication.
  • I had an emergency csection on 6/18 and it's almost 4 weeks recovery and I feel good :) I am still taking it easy but I feel much better then I did the first week haha plenty fluids helped me a lot :)
  • I had my second last Tuesday with a tubal as well. Take a stool softener twice a day and some gas x for pain. It took me about six days before I went to the bathroom. Today I only have one achy spot and I really have to take it easy and have my ibuprofen. Also, wear your binder when you are up and moving but take it off while you're laying down or sitting down resting. I still feel like I have a ways to go, but I'm so much better than two days ago. You'll get there, just keep in mind you had major surgery and you have to take time to rest. Feel better soon!!
  • I had my c section on the 6th... Was on pain meds every 6 hours so I wasn't feeling a LOT of the soreness until I got home. I stopped taking the pain meds because they had me on iron pills as well due to low hemoglobin and I was EXTREMELY constipated... I was passing gas but was in so much pain because I needed to freaking poop! I was also taking colace twice a day and nothing. Finally I'd had it and decided to make a prune juice cocktail (3/4 prune juice 1/4 sprite) and I drank a travel coffee mug full of it! I pooped that night and again the next morning and felt AMAZING. I'm doing much better now, I'm able to get around pretty good and yesterday I walked around Home Depot to pick out our new washer and dryer but that evening I felt pretty sore! Today I managed to clean my house and I'm starting to feel normal but the pain and soreness is still lingering.... And it also hurts when I pee :-/ hang in there girl! It'll get better.

  • I had my csection on July 1, and I feel pretty good today. I did almost a normal day's activities (play wth both daughters, go to Target, etc) but nothing too crazy. I'm a little sore, but mostly feeling back to normal. This is my second csection. Both times I felt pretty decent around day 10 and then almost back to normal around 2 weeks after. I have to remind myself that I still need to take it easy.

  • My first c section sounds just like yours. 22 hours of kabor 3 hours of pushing and then a c section. I also had a rough procedure. It took forever to close me up due to damage to the uterus. I was beyond achy and in pain. Keep up on whatever you are using for pain. I took the hard stuff because 1 I didn't breastfeed and 2 I couldn't handle the pain and needed relief even if it was just temporary. Take stool softeners and keep taking them even after your first BM. If you have a binder us it, helps a ton. It gets better I promise, and I can tell you the second one being a planned c section is a walk in the park in comparison so don't let it discourage you.
  • I actually had a schedule csection with a tubal done yesterday ,. My recovery is going well . I got up and walked about on two different occasion and the nurses assure that I stay on top of my pain medication ..,
  • I had an emergency c section on June 27. I know it seems so horrible at first, but every day I feel more and more better.
Take the meds the doctor gives you. If you feel it's not enough and the pain is still too intense, call your doctor and ask if there is anything else they can give you.
  • I was induced July 2nd & ended up having a C-Section on July 4th due to a large fibroid pressing down on the umbilical cord (the baby's heart rate kept dropping with every strong contraction).

The whole induction/labor process I thought went very smoothly after having an epidural, however the C-Section was a different story. I felt everything & was very painful & was extremely nauseous/almost threw up a couple of times during the surgIery.

Afterwards, the doctors told me it had to do something with them administering the medicine through my epidural vs. a planned c-section but were astonished about how much morphine they had to give me for someone my size. When it was all said & done though I wasn't in pain anymore.

The first couple of days was tough since I was pretty tight & sore down there, with my husband having to change the baby's diaper & helping me up & handing me the baby when he needed to be fed.

However, I was surprised how quick my recovery was. By Thursday (6 days later) I was back to my normal self & can pretty much do everything I did pregnancy. I am making sure to not overdo anything, however I do have to say I feel pretty good. I am still taking the medicine the doctor recommended until my 2 week appointment (Motrin, laxative, & iron pills) since him & the nurses all told me to stay on top of my pain medication, however I'm thinking that he will say that I can stop taking the Motrin
  • I had a planned c-section on the 6th.  Like the pps have said, it gets easier.  I would say take the harder stuff if you are in a good deal of pain.

And definitely remember to take it easy.  My fiance and I ran some errands two days ago with LO.  I didn't think it was anything too strenuous, but I was super sore the next day.  I think it was just too much getting in and out of the car and walking around.  I have to remind myself to relax.

Hang in there.  It will get easier!

  • I had a repeat csection on 7/5. Took me 5 days to have a BM and it hurt a lot. I was on percocents this time that I didn't need my first time. Between the scar tissue and I had a tubal I was definitely hurting more this time. At ten days post partum I didn't have to take any pain pills and was doing norm activity. Still hurts to poop so I'm still taking stool softener

  • With my 1st cesection, I healed really fast and was up walking and straightening up my hospital room the next day. The more I walked the better I felt. I didn't even take my pain meds.

2nd cesection I had a roommate and was unable to move around in our room freely. Recovery was harder. I took some of my pain meds.

3rd cesection had a private room but felt like my staples or stitches were too tight. I could barely stand straight up. I walked around hunched over for days. I do know the more I did walk the easier it was. But that was my hardest recovery. I took a lot my pain meds!
