Water leaking??

When I sneeze or move a certain way I feel a gush of liquid down there. How can I tell if it's urine or my water leaking?

Re: Water leaking??

  • Put on a new pair of dry underwear

    Lie down for 15-20 minutes

Sit up,  does fluid leak out just from sitting up ?

If so call your Dr.  That is how I knew my water broke.

  • I've read from the bump app about snizzing the (sneezing && peeing combo) that's prob what's going on there but moving around && feeling a gush of liquid I would consult w doc . My docs always told me if I felt a "gush" of liquid then I should go straight to the hospital . I had a lil wetness in my undies occasionally around 22 weeks . Just to be safe I went to the hospital . I wasn't leaking any amnio fluid but in your case since you said it's a gush Id go to the hospital && see what's going on .

    Good luck !
  • @jharrison119 @Disneygeek77 I'm 40 weeks today and have an appointment tomorrow. I've always been told if your water breaks it will be like a waterfall
  • No, not necessarily everyone is different.

I had my baby in January but one night around 1:30 in the morning I felt wetness down there so I go up to check.  My panties were pretty wet but I remember thinking ""  Hmmm, maybe I just peed myself."  So I tried to empty my bladder and put on a new pair of underwear.  I then layed back down for about ten minutes and  when I sat back up I started leaking again.  I got my husband and told him I was pretty sure it was time to go to the hospital.  He then got himself and the kids ready while I laid on the couch.  Sure enough, when I sat back up I leaked again.  Then I knew.  I sat on a few towels in the car and I could feel them getting wet too.  Not soaked just wet.  In fact, when I got out of our car there were a nice little trail from the parking spot to the maternity welcome center.

So mine wasn't like a waterfall, but it wasn't a slow leak either more in between.  The reason I say to lie down is to see if the water pools in your vaginal canal and then leaks out once you are upright.  That can't be said for urine.
  • It could possibly be your water. My water broke without a gush, would just constantly leak, esp when I moved certain ways, and I wasn't sure. This will sound weird, I know, but it's really a thing. Amniotic fluid is alkalotic compared to urine and vaginal discharge. You can test the fluid ph at home using ph strips like you use in fish tanks. I don't remember what range amniotic fluid falls in but you can google it really easy. It's essentially the same test as one of the ones they do in the hospital to check if it's amniotic fluid.
  • Normal pH of amniotic fluid usually falls between 7.0 and 7.5
  • When my water broke it gushed, and just kept coming. I couldn't stop the flow at all !
  • Normal pH of amniotic fluid usually falls between 7.0 and 7.5

    Thank you?
  • When mine originally broke I was standing in my hospital room waiting on the epidural. It was dripping down my legs, but no gush. The nurse checked the pH to confirm it was my water and I didn't just pee myself.

Later on I did have a gush while on the table. Baby must have moved and let a bunch of fluid out in the process. Lay down a,while and then stand...if you're dripping call the doctor.
