Round the clock nauseous!

Everything I smell or even look at makes me nauseous! But I must feed baby! I'm only 6w 5d so I have a ways to go! What should I do?!

Call your doctor/midwife and ask if its ok to take vitamin B6 and Unisom tabs. They may prescribe you a combined version, but they may also instruct you on how to take an OTC version. 25mg of B6 3x a day. 12.5mg of Doxylamine (the active ingredient in Unisom tabs) up to 4x a day. The Doxylamine will make you drowsy so you start off by taking it only at night and if needed add a dose until you're feeling better. I've been doing the B6 for a bout a week and just took a dose of Unisom last night since the nausea was awful all day yesterday. I do feel much better today, so I'm crossing my fingers that this is my cure.

If you don't want to take medications, there are a lot of suggestions online about relieving morning sickness. Anything ginger helps. Lemonade has been one of my go tos. Peppermint tea may help. Lots of small meals - I end up eating about 100 calories every hour and that helps keep the nausea from getting too bad.

I'm right there with you, and really hoping it doesn't get any worse. With my first pregnancy I was ok until about 8 weeks, then pretty miserable from 8-11 weeks, and then the nausea went away overnight. This pregnancy I'm feeling miserable already and am only 7 weeks along. Maybe I'll be feeling better by 10 weeks?

Eat what you can. You can in fact survive on crackers/pretzels and lemonade for a few weeks. It won't hurt your baby.

I had the same issue last year with DD.  Not fun at all and not much worked for me.  I subsided on protein shakes for the first three months.  I tried everything including sea bands which seemed to help.  I present in front of clients so I had to find ways to hide the sea bands.

Your provider will be most concerned that the baby is growing.  As long as you are measuring and your uterus is growing, they won't be concerned on if you aren't gaining weight or even losing weight.  I lost weight my 1st trimester the last time.

It is miserable so I feel for you.

  • Basically it's sucks major balls.  If you can stomach it, eat something tiny every 1-2 hours.  I find if I do protein, that's usually my best bet.  Unisom/B6 nightly and Zofran if you can't function.

With my last pregnancy I was miserable all of the time for my first trimester.  I basically ate mushy foods (ice cream, oatmeal, smoothies) and ended up losing about 7 lbs.  It was so nice when I felt better!  So far this pregnancy has been better, although I feel pretty crappy today.
  • What's weird is that the ONLY time I feel better is when I am eating. So even though the thought of food makes me super nauseous, as I am eating I feel great. That lasts about 10 minutes and then I feel terrible again. I wake up with it and go to bed with it. I am only 6w0d so I have a loooong way to go!!
