anterior placenta

Hey Ladies,

At 18 weeks we found out we are having a healthy baby girl and that I have an anterior placenta. I have not felt her move yet because my placenta is providing some extra cushion my ob said I might not feel her until 26 weeks. I'm a FTM and really excited about this pregnancy and wanting to feel her move. Anyone else not felt there baby move ( I'm now 19 week's) and anxious?

Hi there, I don't have personal experience with this, but my SIL had anterior placenta with both my nephew and niece. She didn't feel either move as early or regularly as some people do, but both were born full term and healthy. I am a bit behind you (17+4) and have yet to feel movement. I hope this gives you some peace of mind.

  • I had one with my first pregnancy. Didn't feel her move till 22-23 weeks. I wouldn't worry about it.
  • I'm not worried really yet I just want to feel her move. I'm an RN and have recently moved into l&d. I just don't want it to turn into placenta prievia that can be a little scary. Hopefully by 23 weeks I'll feel something.
  • Hmm i've never heard of the anterior placenta turning into placenta previa. No one even mentioned it for me last time, and i only knew it was anterior because i asked (and i found out about it on this board). If i hadn't asked they'd probably not mention it.

Hope you feel your baby soon. This time i have a posterior placenta and i felt the baby at 18 weeks.
  • More often than not I've heard of placenta prievia becoming an anterior placenta than the other way around. Typically as the uterus grows and stretches the placenta moves up. This is what happened for me this time around.

I felt movement a few weeks later this time than I did with my first. I feel little light movements but it feels like Bun has to be in certain positions for me to feel it. Now at 20 weeks I'll occasionally feel bigger movements with Bun rolling over but other than that it still just feels like those first flutters or bubbles popping like when you first start feeling baby.

I had an anterior with DS and I felt him between 22-23 weeks. It will come!
  • I had this with my last and current pregnancy. I was hoping it wouldn't be in the same place this time. You feel a bit jipped, right?! Last time, I had a big baby and lots of fluid so I didn't really feel the baby much. I had to get a bunch of extra scans too because I would be freaked that I wasn't feeling the baby. Luckily everything was fine but I totally understand where you are coming from.
  • With my first I had borderline placenta previa & an anterior placenta, as time went on the placenta previa moved up and was no longer an issue and I felt him movie for the first time (properly) at 22 weeks, it sux but soon enought you'll feel it constantly :) this time I've got another anterior placenta *sigh* but have felt bub on and off since about 17 weeks which my OB says is normal as its my second. Hang in there, it will come
  • I have an anterior placenta too. The only time I feel LO is when he fiddles around really low. Ouch! Oh and I'm 19w4d

  • I have this! I'm 19 weeks! From time to time I feel tiny pops and flutters. Can't wait until they're unmistakable! :)
  • I had anterior placenta with my son. I didnt feel him move as much. Hes perfectly healthy and happy, now two (almost) years old.
  • I also have an anterior placenta 17W and haven't felt movement either. They told me the same thing about it taking longer to feel movement. I have noticed tho I have a lot of siatic back pain and that's about all I feel. I have also heard with an anterior placenta it's possible you may experience back labor when it's time to deliver? Anyways I know how u feel I am a FTM and just wanna feel the baby moving around! Im sure when it does come it will be very noticeable since baby will be exceptionally bigger than now :)
    Best of luck!!!

Enjoy the fact that you don't have something kicking you all of the time just yet. It'll come.
I have this too and dr said I'll feel it happening between 17-18 weeks and then regularly around 20. She also said being thin in the tummy will make you feel it earlier than if there was more cushion there.

wanted to add I won't worry unless I'm around 26 weeks and haven't felt it yet.

I have an anterior placenta too and I'm 19 weeks and I rarely feel anything. Don't worry, totally normal. I'm as anxious as you are to feel LO but we just need to be patient ;)

I'm 19 weeks and haven't felt anything yet. When did you find out you had anterior placenta? I haven't been told anything like that. I'm hoping it's just too early or that maybe I have some cushioning in there.
  • With my first pregnancy, I didn't feel my son move until 25 weeks or so, but they never mentioned an anterior placenta. I worried a lot, but he turned out perfectly healthy! Now with my second pregnancy, I do have an anterior placenta, but I felt this guy move around 14 weeks!! Hopefully, you'll feel yours very soon!!
  • Yup my midwife suspects that. 20 weeks and still no dice

    Thanks for the info!
  • If it makes you feel better I am pregnant with my third and 17 weeks and have yet to really feel him move! With my first I didn't feel him until 23 weeks.
  • @MGB123 I found out the position of the placenta from the anatomy scan. If you've already had it and they didn't say anything you can still ask. I wasn't told during the scan but the nurse practioner I saw right after told me from the notes.
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy.  I really only felt bubbles popping and an occasional jab.  None of that amazing movement you see on all the youtube videos are body parts moving about.  I don't know yet how it will be with this pregnancy.  I am anxious to feel movement also!  I will be 17 weeks tomorrow.

  • I have an AP and I'm 21w3d now. I started feeling flutters around 19w or so, but they reAlly became more recognizable in the past week. Every once in a while I get a swift kick to the side or my cervix. Position makes a difference too, I feel him more when I'm leaning forward in a chair, for example.

  • We just had our anatomy scan on Tuesday and I was told that I also have anterior placenta and that's why I haven't felt him move yet. The tech said that I might not be able to feel him much through this pregnancy. This is our first and it took a while to get here and I am a little heartbroken that I won't be able to see or feel him moving around as much. But he's a he and he's growing right on schedule so I guess that's my positive side of it. I can tell ya that our next one I'm going to cross my fingers not to have anterior placenta pregnancy ;)

I'm in the same boat. Found out yesterday I have an anterior placenta and was bummed. I'm 18 weeks and I swear I have been feeling small movements but it might be because I want to feel him and it's really in my head. Last night I was laying on my side and felt light jabs on my side. Hoping it was him but it's so hard to tell. I'm hoping I will be able to know for sure when I feel him soon.
  • I'm 19 weeks and just went in for our scan this week. Tech mentioned something about placenta being forward but didn't use the term 'anterior placenta.' I feel things in my tummy but still not sure if it's the baby or gas lol but hopefully it'll become obvious soon. DH is anxious to feel her move!

I am 20w4d with twins and I still haven't felt much. Every once in a while I will feel baby A moving really low but nothing other than that. I am a FTM and I definitely feel like I'm missing out. Hopefully we will all start to feel our little ones soon!
  • Yep 21 weeks and nadda...lo was super active during ultrasound so I'm not worried...I've felt some stuff but it could still be gas haha
I know it will come in time...but I really can't wait to feel them
  • I have an anterior placenta as well, felt some bubble fish like feeling last night but that's it so far
  • Hi, I also have an anterior placenta and have barely felt baby boy move at 22 weeks, MAYBE five definite kicks in all. I wouldn't worry about it, I know he's moving from the 20 week ultrasound so I'm not worried about it :)

  • I'm 22 weeks close to 23 with an anterior placenta and I feel like the last few days I feel him move more and more. It feels like thumping inside me or popping sometimes. It is the oddest sensation, but because I have an anterior placenta I can't help but doubt it sometimes. If it isn't him I have no clue what my insides are doing randomly throughout the day.
  • @SomedayInMyArms I too have just started feeling pops or weird sensations and I hope its my baby girl but I'm at times convincing myself its in my head and I'm not feeling anything. Oh the things first time mom's do to themselves.. Lol sometimes I think I'm just a basket case who cries all the time with crazy cravings !!!
