Just my right foot is swollen?

So I'm 33weeks. First pregnancy. No swelling at all so far. But I'm short and gained 30 lbs already. Today in a child care class, I noticed my right foot and ankle are swollen. It's uncomfortable not unbearable. Two days after baby shower so I was on my feet a ton this weekend. I want to assume it's all par for the course, but since it's only one side, I figured I'd see what you mamas think. Thoughts?

Re: Just my right foot is swollen?

  • a couple weeks ago I had this problem, called my doctor and they said if it starts hurting go to ER to rule out a blood clot but that its not unusual for one side to swell more then the other but to keep my feet up and drink lots and lots of water.

  • One of my feet is always more swollen than the other. It was the same with my first pregnancy. I've noticed that it seems to be the side where most of baby is sitting, too. If his rump is in my right side, chances are my right foot is swollen. Like PP said, just keep an eye on it just in case
  • My feet switch off swelling, I don't know why.

My right always swells Up more than the left, every pregnancy. I think it's from a pinched nerve. No blood clot issues here.

  • I'm the same haha it always seems to be my right foot that swells up the most. It's what I always call my bigger foot aswell because when I try shoes on there always smaller on that foot. X
  • Definitely mention it to your doctor. From what I understand, asymmetrical swelling can be a red flag in some cases and I would follow up with your doctor just to be safe.
  • Could be circulation issue. Try sitting in different chairs and positions. And walking helps me a lot. I swell when I sit in hard chairs the press the backs of my legs
  • I mentioned to my dr and they told me to go to the ER. They did blood work, a US on my legs, and the normal pee test. I'm fine, but the concern was preeclampsia. I was advised to wear compression knee highs going forward. They help with comfort and a little with swelling, but they don't take the swelling away.
  • If a blood clot is ruled out chances are you are a leg crosser when you sit or sleep . Also be conscious of how you stand. Are you leaning on one hip putting weight on one leg.
  • I'd definitely put my feet up and drink a ton of water. I had major swelling in one foot and not the other and went for an ultrasound of my legs to rule out blood clot. It was nothing but it can be serious if it isn't nothing. Keep an eye on it and mention it at your next appointment.
  • Thanks, all. Went to the doctor today. Turns out it's just 'normal' pregnancy swelling. Up the feet go! And downing the water...
