Ovarian cysts

Is anyone else dealing with ovarian cysts? I was told I probably will need surgery to remove them so they don't rupture or cause the ovary to twist as the baby grows. I'm very stressed having to wait till 20 weeks for the next ultrasound to get better measurements of them for a final decision.

Re: Ovarian cysts

  • I haven't dealt with any while being pregnant, but I've dealt with them on and off since I was 11they won't do surgery on me just yet because I'm "too young" My doctor says. I hoped everything works out for you. Keep me updated hun. I'll be praying for you.

Do you know what kind? Have they been growing?
I had this last pregnancy and it was so painful! They finally shrank on their own so no surgery for me. Hope yours disappear too!
  • I have had one that has been being tracked throughout my pregnancy. They found it on the initial US, every time we go and they measure it to see if it is shrinking- it hasn't yet. Mine is a "simple" cysts so no harm to the baby, but given the size they have been watching. Did they tell you what kind yours is?
  • I also have a simple cyst, 2.5cm. How large is yours? If it's over 7cm sometimes they will want to remove it.
I've also dealt with them most of of my life. My current one doesn't seems to be shrinking or growing, so we're just letting it hang out.
  • I don't have it anymore but I had one over a year ago... I wasn't pregnant and they did not do anything about it. But it was so painful for months. :( I'm sorry you're going through this! Thoughts and prayers.
  • It's a teratoma that is 8cm. Doc said yesterday they will only do surgery in an emergency while pregnant. Would like to wait it out and remove after pregnancy. So some relief that I don't require surgery during pregnancy but will need it eventually. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone!
  • I've dealt with ovarian cysts for the past five or six (give or take) years? I actually had one rupture that caused what I can only describe as appendicitis-level pain. I was admitted to the hospital under the impression that it was appendicitis. They didn't know it was an ovarian cyst that ruptured until they were performing an appendectomy. Haven't had any irritating me during pregnancy though.

I'm glad you won't need surgery during your pregnancy! Hopefully all goes well and it doesn't cause you too much trouble for the remainder. Sending thoughts and prayers that you don't end up needing the emergency surgery. Please let us know how it goes!

  • Yes! I posted about this last week. Had pain so severe was sent to ER. Mine are fibroids (similar? but non cancerous). Got checked before pregnancy and the largest measured 3cm. Had an MRI at ER and the biggest now measures 5cm. Doc said they don't usually grow during pregnancy but if they do, it's usually only in the first trimester so she said it shouldn't be a problem during the pregnancy except for pain management. She said no doctor would operate on me during pregnancy but I can have them removed as early as 6 weeks after delivery. For pain, Tylenol has not helped so she prescribed me Vicodin and advised to take no more than 1-2 per week. I don't want to take any so I'm sucking it up but pain has gotten MUCH better in the last 3 days.
  • They found a cyst on my first ultrasound but I feel no pain and the doctor did not seem concerned. I hope everything goes well for you!
