Hi Everyone- I introduced myself last week as I started my IVF cycle. Well, today I got the bad news that they are cancelling this cycle. I was on the injections for 6 nights and they only saw 2 follicles so they don't think it is wise to continue on... I actually couldn't believe how upset I got in the office. The doctor said that he needs to do a stronger protocol to "push my ovaries to their limit."
Has anyone had this happen? Any insight on what the change in protocol might be or how long it will take to start this all over again? My health insurance will only cover everything one time so I really only have one shot to get this right. I appreciate that the doctor is doing the right thing by me, but I am getting so frustrated. I was also wondering if we should try on our own this month since we aren't completing the IVF this cycle? I really don't know what the right move is...
Do you have a follow up with your doctor? Or did he just say call me when you get your period and that was that? If you don't have any more follow up scheduled with your practice I would call them and demand one. You deserve more of an explanation and a plan, especially since they didn't tell you about trying naturally or not.
The doctor was nice, but pretty quick with me. I was shocked and upset so I wasn't ready with any questions and he didn't give me much information. He said that my estrogen level was 200 and my lining was looking good, but the eggs just weren't responding. I had my ovarian reserve tested in February and the numbers were "great"-- when it was last tested they said I had a DOR. So, that was a strange discrepancy for me. For now, they said that they would call me later to discuss next steps. He said he may use the trigger shot or progesterone to help me get my period in about 2 weeks... but "we'll see." So, the whole thing is confusing. He also said that at best the most eggs he thinks he can get from me would be 5 or 6. I don't know how he knows that...
Have you all tried on your own after a cancellation? I have one blocked tube so my chances are always cut in half anyway. I also have a history of MC so I am always so frightened to try on my own.
Ugh I'm so sorry! This all sucks that it got cancelled and that you are left with more questions than answers. I'm don't know enough about this to help but wanted to send you HUGS.

I'm reading all this and very disappointed they did not communicate better with you.
Just like @efhoping2010, I am a poor responder. Changing to what is often known as the "microdose Lupron flare" protocol and getting on HGH improved my mature egg quality. I have only ever had about 6 to 9 eggs taken from me for all three cycles though.
I agree with all the girls that you assert your (very reasonable) needs with the doctor and at least schedule a phone consult for more information in the next couple days. You are right to get answers on this, especially if your insurance only pays for one cycle.
GL and keep us updated! (((hugs)))

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your advice and support. You motivated to get my doctor on the phone and get some answers. They told me not to try on my own because of my tubal issues. Instead, they are starting me on Provera tonight for the next 10 days which will bring on my period. Then they are going to do Lupron injections combined with the Lo Dose HCG and Gonal F. The Lupron will be twice a day so it will be 4 injections off the bat. They told me to remain optimistic and that the first cycle is really about establishing a good idea of which medicines work for me. So, there it is for now... I am sorry we are all in this boat together, but it is nice having your support. Wishing you all well!
I am so sorry! I would be very upset too. We also only can afford one shot at IVF and it's stressful having all your eggs in one basket, literally! Is it an option to convert to IUI this cycle? That would probably be my choice if I were in your situation. I am glad you have a plan for moving forward. Hang in there!
Thanks! I am trying to stay hopeful for next time. I certainly have all my eggs in one basket... I just wish there were more. Haha! Unfortunately, I can't do IUI because of issues with my blocked tube. So, I have to try my one cycle and pray for the best!

I am a poor responder and was put on estrogen priming with a microdose lupron flare this last cycle.
Perhaps you were oversuppressed?
What was your AFC at baseline?
Have you all tried on your own after a cancellation? I have one blocked tube so my chances are always cut in half anyway. I also have a history of MC so I am always so frightened to try on my own.
Can you schedule a consult with your RE to discuss your next protocol/plan?
We are unable to try on our own because of Dh's dx.
