I am a FTM and I'm curious what kinds of birth plans everyone has period. If you're not having a planned C-section are you…

Amen! I hear ya! I am hoping natural too, but hey you never know!!
  • I tried natural as long as possible with my first two. This time I'm getting the epidural as soon as I can.
  • I planned on trying to do it without. And that I did.
  • I already told doc I want an epidural when I'm admitted. Lovely back labor for the 2nd pregnancy...
  • Mine will depend on what happens. If they decide to induce an epidural will happen, if no induction then I probably won't unless I have some horrible back labor or something. This is #3 and I've gone both ways now so pretty comfortable knowing what I want and what I can handle.

  • My first I did it without the epidural so I'm not getting an epidural this time as well
  • I'm going to try to go without it but I'm definitely not completely opposed!

Thanks for the input ladies! Seems as though we are almost even as far as epidural and trying without

This is me too. Had an epidural with my first daughter when I was induced. The epidural was amazing and couldn't have done without it but it did mean I needed a ventouse in order to deliver my daughter. Second time labour was spontaneous and quick- it hurt and I made a joke that I needed one but when seriously asked if I wanted one I didn't think I would be able to sit still long enough. My daughter was born less than 30 mins after that x
  • Planning a home birth. No epidurals their! :)
  • I want a natural birth, and QUIET!!!! I can focus through the pain quite well with silence. I'm soo excited to hold my baby ,, I can't wait!
  • Giving birth in a free standing birth center, no pain meds or epidural available. I am a FTM and I am sure that it will be painful but I believe that I can do it
  • Planning on no meds... Trying hypnobabies :)

If you are not opposed to an epidural, I want to say that it actually sped along my labor. After the epi, I went from 3 cm-7cm in 2 hours, and then 7-full in 20 minutes. I also did skin to skin and let the baby find the nipple right after labor. He was not groggy or anything. I highly respect the women who did it naturally- wow- you gals rock, but if you are worried about an epi, I don't think there is anything to fret over. With that said, everyone labors differently.

I think for some people it can definitely help them relax, allowing then to progress faster. I don't judge your decisions, I just think there are other tools I can use to help me progress
  • I am hoping for a water birth at the midwife led centre. Gas and air for pain. But as this is my first baby I won't rule out going for an epidural till I have felt how much pain I can handle!

Well said @audi681! As an FTM I would say I would like to do it naturally, but things may change… I will not try to be a hero and I will not beat myself up over using an epidural

@BettyCotton I was also interested in trying the gas… But I don't think it's going to be available in my hospital until after I deliver. It was mentioned that my prepared birth class that they were going to be getting it soon

@ChristyM87 I agree and would like to try other things to help me deal with the pain! I like the idea of the epidural taking away the pain, but I don't like the idea of not being able to feel the pushing and what I'm doing
  • Hypnobabies with my first and now hopefully I can use it even more successfully this time :) I'm absolutely terrified of needles and want my body to tell me what's going on and when to push. I am also super sensitive to pain meds...I get loopy with extra strength Tylenol so I I'll probably just ask for some. I don't think any less of women that get epidurals. It's your body and you know what you need to bring your little one into the world. I just picked what I think works for me.
