Diaper rash

I was just wondering which kind of cream all of you mama's use. So far I have tried desitin, butt paste, and no more monkey butt. She has had a red spot for a week but nothing seems to be clearing it up and today I noticed she had more redness and little white bumps in between her cheeks. So I think it's getting worse and not better. Advice anyone?

Re: Diaper rash

  • We have been trying to get rid of a diaper rash since week 1. We use A&D, Bordeaux, and a special compound the hospital makes. Bordeaux seems to work the best, but still hasn't cleared it.

  • My bubba started getting a nappy rash and I started to use sudocrem with every nappy change then about 2 or 3 days later it was gone. Sudocrem is really good people even but it for after they get tattoos because it heals the skin so quick
  • I use desitin but I try to open his diaper and leave in the air at least every day for ten minutes, it helps alot.
  • I use The Honest Company diaper rash cream, it's seriously the best! It's more expensive BUT she will get red I put some on and the next time I change her the redness is gone!!

This exactly. We tried everything and they would help but not take it away completely. We switched to Honest Company cream and wipes and it went away that day. Worth every cent.
  • Use corn starch. My mom swears by it and it was the only thing that worked on my niece. Anytime I think DS is getting a bit red I put coconut oil on it and he has never had one.
  • We use coconut oil mixed with a little bit of lavender oil.. Amazed at how quick DS's tooshie got better!

  • Aquaphor Baby is magic.
  • Triple paste! I had tried everything, every kind and this took it away! Make sure their bum is dry before applying or it will just seal in the wetness. You can find it at target

When DD had a rash her doctor suggested bioderma cream, it's been great but it's a little dry so i put a coat of sheabutter or vaseline if i'm out of butter to keep her skin from drying up and to stop urine from coming in contact with the area, poor baby used to scream when urinating, i still use shea butter, it's pricy though so i might go back to sudo cream which her doctor recommended for regular use after the rash
  • Thanks ladies I might try honest co I love their wipes so I'll probably like the cream as well
  • My pedi told us to use triple paste. It's really thick and works in a few diaper changes. It's really worth it. We found it at babies r us and walgreens.
  • If there are red dots, it could also be yeast infection rather than just a diaper rash. You can use a little monistat (the kind you would buy for yourself for a yeast infection) and that should help!

He started having some trouble with diaper rash. I was using desitin but switched to AandD, which I like better. We apply at every diaper change. I also will put him on a waterproof pad with no diaper during the day. My lactation nurse also recommended I take a good probiotic (he is EBF) which has helped clear up his diaper rash too.
  • Aquaphor at every change.

  • We have used sudocream and found it effective. Only used it a couple of times. Fortunately DS hasn't had much diaper rash and it cleared up right away.

I'd be curious to try coconut oil as PP mentioned. I have used coconut oil on DS's cradle cap and it's worked very well!

When my second son had a really terrible diaper rash from antibiotics, the hospital mixed equal parts liquid maalox and A&D (or aquaphor). it worked really well.

Edit: I've also read mixing equal parts original Desitin, Maalox and A&D/Aquaphor works well too.
  • Bag balm! Our son has had angry red sores in his crack for weeks as we tried different things. The current routine is finally starting to work: pat dry with washcloth, apply cornstarch to soak up any moisture, apply a triple antibiotic ointment (e.g. Neosporin), cover with bag balm. We had been doing the same routine with max strength Desitin instead of bag balm, and that kept it from getting worse but it didn't improve. Finally seeing some progress with the bag balm - here's hoping it clears up all the way!
  • My LO had super sensitive skin...everything gives her a rash (arms, legs, tush, etc). She had a diaper rash very early on, so we started using DIY wipes (viva paper towels cut into thirds, 1 cup of warm water, 1 Tbps J&J all Natural bath, 1 Tbps baby oil, pull out the cardboard center after 3 minutes and pull from the middle). When wet diaper we use the DIY, but when we are out and about or it's a stinky diaper we use the pampers sensitive. We also alternate putting desitin and petrolium jelly on her tush after each diaper change. She hasn't had a single issue since we started this routine.
  • Equal parts corns starch, maylox, and butt paste. It was the only thing that helped my twins! You want it thicker and you don't want to scrape it off. Just kind of blot it. After 24 hours bad rash was completely gone!
  • Check out wellnessmama.com for good homemade baby products, without gunk.  I find the diaper spray I'm using to clean her little butt with keeps her plenty clean, and no rashes.  I don't use any other products on her so far.  *fingers crossed*  It's under homemade wipes on her site, but I use wash cloths, so I just put the wash in a spray bottle and squirt some on the cloth

I swear by Bag Balm. My first has never had a diaper rash because any sign of redness I but this on and the next change she is red free.

Triple paste is amazing! It will clear up rashes after a few applications. I also use Honest Co or Babyganics for everyday maintenance
  • I like balmex
  • It may be a yeast infection in which case Probiotics work great! If you already have some, sprinkle probiotic onto the rash directly and/or mix probiotic with a little breast milk in tea spoon and give orally once a day. My baby girl has a yeast infection 2 weeks after she was born as I had antibiotics during labour, and the probiotics fixed everything in 2 days. She hasn't had anything since.
  • Luckily I haven't had to deal with this yet, but my aunt swears by corn starch!
  • well LO went for her 2 month visit today and the pediatrician said it's bacterial and we now have antibiotic ointment for it. hoping it finally goes away

Agreed. My first guy had a rash that wouldn't go away when he was bitty and the pediatrician took one look and said oh ya it's jock itch. We bought some anti fungal and thing cleared up quickly. I would call the doc and see about the monistat because if it is a yeast infection none of the diaper creams will heal it .

Haha I should have read farther down on the thread to see that you got it figured out. Glad you got something for it :)
  • Doctor gave me vitamin E cream to mix with Dessitin like a butt cocktail. Works wonders.
