Sex/Orgasms during 1st trimester

Hi ladies ☺️

I am worried sick since I saw on a few other forums that orgasms can be bad and can lead to complications.. Naturally this has freaked me out as I have had 2 orgasms since finding out I'm pregnant.. Once was in my sleep for crying out loud!! Sorry for the TMI but I had to ask.. Do you know anything about this?
I have a private scan on Saturday when I will be 8 weeks so until then I will drive myself nuts

  • Unless you are high risk and are on an orgasm restriction via your doctor, you don't need to be concerned.

  • I've never heard of that either unless you are high risk. I've just read that orgasms are supposed to feel more intense...I really don't feel that much of a difference. Fwiw this is my 3rd pregnancy and we have sex pretty often and my 2 other babies have been just fine.

Lol I'm no doctor, but I can tell you being on my 3rd pregnancy, I've never heard of such a thing.
  • You would know if your doctor recommended it. Yes, some of us are on "pelvic rest" for certain conditions. It's often recommended following ivf procedures and if you've had bleeding, like my subchorionic hemorrhage.

  • When I was 4-6wks I had orgasm in my sleep...I woke up to it and had cramps but it went away. Just listen to your body...I'm 11 weeks and perfectly fine. Just don't get to crazy

Haha! I almost died at doctor prescribed "orgasm restriction". :)
Lol this was what my doctor called it when I was pregnant with my twins. Not just pelvic rest....it was "absolutely no sex and no orgasms whatsoever"

  • Lurking from another board...

You'll be fine unless your on pelvic rest and the Dr specified nothing in the vagina and no orgasms. I'm almost 27 weeks and have orgasms almost daily and my LO is fine (: !
  • The more sex you have and the more orgasms you have the more your uterus tones and the easier your labor will be. So don't even worry about it.
  • You'll be fine. Keep getting your freak on!

I get a brief cramping sensation accompanying every orgasm, and that's happened since right before my BFP, so I stopped worrying about it at all. I've never heard orgasm was contraindicated, other than for those on pelvic rest, as PPs have noted. ... And I think that would be more of a common-knowledge thing, if it were, given that many/most pregnant women are sexually active or have the proclivity to be... Anyway, I would venture a strong guess that it's not something to be "worried sick" over. Enjoy your sex life if you're hankering, mama!

  • Thank you ladies, you have all made me feel tons better!
It was only after when I had slight cramping I was so worried so turned to google.. Never a smart move haha.
I think I've done well to last until almost 8 weeks with nothing.. It's been hard though!!
  • Mild cramping after orgasms is perfectly normal and annoying and towards the end it's not even worth having one (for me anyway) so I'd get them in now.
  • I've become scared to have sex and orgasm since i found out but I know it's my own fear because i was having sex 5 times a week before I found out I was pregnant and the baby and I are ok.

I've read and spoke to people and there should be no risk factors but you should speak to your doctor about your fear to get reassurance
  • If you have severe cramps after orgasm, you may want to talk to your dr about cysts. That's how I found out about these golf ball sized cysts I had (several years prior to pregnancy), but the cramps were so severe, I knew right away that something was wrong when it happened and it was only on one side.

  • ok hun.... you need to calm down. You're freaked about nothing!!! Your baby is well protected and sex/orgasms doesn't hurt it at all. I would highly suggest purchasing and reading "What to Expect when you're Expecting". It will put a LOT of your worries at ease, I promise!!!!

  • I'd avoid whatever forums you were in that said sex was bad. Sounds like they are full of tosh. I'm on a sex ban at the moment which sucks big time but unless your doc tells you to there's no reason to worry.
  • The more sex you have and the more orgasms you have the more your uterus tones and the easier your labor will be. So don't even worry about it.

    Excellent!! ;)
