My registry, no complaints, just my opinion

So I used babyli.st for my registry. I really was hoping it would be well received with its limitless options. If anyone is considering using it, I would probably stick with the basics, like babies r us or target or buybuy baby. Nothing was purchased from my registry, which I really feel was due to the fact that people just want to go to a store and buy a gift. Im sure others have had success with babyli.st, but this was just my experience. Hope it helps!

Re: My registry, no complaints, just my opinion

  • I used myregistry.com but I only registered at target, Nordstrom, and land of nod. But this way a person could see all of it and decide what store. For my in town friends nearly everyone went with target. But my out of
    Towners shipped things from them
All. It's likely that the convenience factor of in store vs online shopping had Lots to
Do with your result. And myregistry let ppl buy from stores not on the list and mark it purchased which was cool too. Technology sometimes too smart for our family and friends

  • Thats awesome. I know its different for everyone. I just wanted to give some input. I had things from babies r us, target, amaxon and like 3 items from etsy. I also have an older family, which probably had something to do with it too.

  • I used baby list and really liked it. I feel like people always buy what they want no matter what. But having a small one for somewhere like target is always convienent for people who want to just go to a store.
  • @LEGALLYblonde86 yea mine didn't go over well with the older crowd either. Most of them
Went off about the Internet Mumbo jumbo and gave me a check
  • I have sometimes bought from the registry but I prefer to buy in store and the stores don't always have it in stock. Our Target here is really bad for that. I do check the registry before to get an idea of what they need and seem to have a preference for so that they still get something that they'll like/need if I don't buy off the registry.
  • I used babies r us and I found ppl still bought what they wanted. I'm grateful for everything we got but I had a hard time seeing the rationale in things that the child can't use for 4+ yrs (fishing pole, child size rain boots). All things that are adorable but not really practical. I also have a problem with hoarding/storing things so if I had a preference, I'd much rather have those gifts provided at a more practical time. :-/ not to sound ungrateful :-/
  • We made two registries: one at Target and one at Babies R Us. The local friends and family ended up buying out almost all of our Target registry and the out of town folks bought from BRU and had everything shipped to us.

I think by the end of the shower we only had maybe 8 items that weren't purchased between both registries. A couple more of the items were recently purchased by out of town family and shipped to us and we just bought the other items this week ourselves. We did it this way so that, if people wanted to buy off a registry for us, they had the option to go to a store and not have to try to figure out any kind online system. Plus, we totally used that completion discount from target (after the shower) to load up our registry with everything we could think of that we needed (clothes for us, paper towels, toilet paper, etc) and did a huge bulk shopping spree. Then we removed all the non baby items after they were purchased so people who may still check our registry wouldn't think we were weird lol
  • This is why I did Target and Amazon. Amazon is good for working professionals/out of towners and Target offers both in-store and online options. People did use my Target registry more however (could also be due to the fact that I had a lot more items on it than Amazon).
  • We used babyli.st as we had a really hard time with our theme, math and science. I had to peice together things and that app helped a bunch. I think we got more for there then our regular babies r us register, which was also listed on the babyli.st as well.

We did ours with target but I only received a gift from one person anyway (not off the registry) I do still have 4 wks left, but it's whatever... No big deal, not like anyone is obligated to buy anything.... So it could have just been the people you know didn't want to use that list. Bummer I know, just part of life

I was thinking the same thing when someone gave us shoes that were for a toddler. I dont mind, and I am still grateful for everything we received, just curious what their thoughts were when buying them.

We registered at babies r us and target and very few people bought off the registry. We recieved mostly clothes. So thankful for everything, I just think when it comes to babies people prefer to pick out what they think is cute.
  • Lol I registered on amazon and babies r us. The babies r us is almost gone and amazon hardly touched. Who knew! I thought it would be the opposite.

  • We registered at babies r us which has the online purchase option and in store and still most people ignored the registry. We ended up with mostly clothes. Still super grateful, only person who annoyed me was MIL. She was fully aware that we received a ton of hand me downs from friends and family and really didn't need any clothes at all. All she bought were clothes which again grateful for the gifts but the kicker was she didn't even pay attention to seasons so he won't be able to wear anything she bought unless we want to put him in a snowsuit in August and shorts in January.

It's odd, but I think this is really common with the sizing season. I think partly it's people who don't have babies or haven't had them in a while, they just don't realize it. I got a lot of mix matched season and sizes but I think most things she will still be able to wear with Leggins or tights and maybe a sweeter or long sleeve onesie underneath. I'm regretting not returning some things, but I was excited about everything and felt bad making returns.

Same!! I think Amazon is intimidating to some people? Especially the older folks.
  • I know this boat all too familiar! Haha we are having a girl.. Yet still received obvious boy clothes from MIL.. Y? Lol
  • We spent hours on our registry and yet 4 out of 75 people bought off of our registry. We received all sorts of things that we already had, or just plain do not need... And we only registered at target... Kind of irritating. No I'm not a spoiled brat, but it's a lot of work and preparing...

I totally agree. I personally don't understand not shopping from registries (baby clothes I kind of get cuz they are fun but people that buy other stuff and ignore the registry). I love shopping from a registry. It ensures that the gift I am buying is something the receiver wants and needs.
  • We originally only registered at BRU but ended up doing one at Target because of a high chair I wanted. The convenience of Target, I think, caused most people to select from the very few items we registered for there. (We have one IN town, whereas the nearest BRU is like 20 minutes away)

Either way, I have a newfound respect for registries & I don't think I'll be venturing from them when gift buying in the future.
  • I have a Babies r us, target, & Amazon and have had most of our gifts purchased from them. I'm thankful for everything of course, but since we aren't telling anyone if it is a girl or boy this seems to have helped people who want to buy things to help out.

My one complaint though is Babies r us. They have screwed up several registry purchases and have not credited my rewards account. Which of course, the rewards program is why we registered so many items there in the first place. They haven't really been very helpful in the store either when I have tried to go sort it out. Oh well, guess their rewards program is actually too good to be true. I guess all the sites/stores probably have their pros/cons - at least that is what I gather from this thread. :)
  • I did a babys r us and a baby list registry and had the same thing happen. .no one bought anything from baby list. I think just bc people weren't familiar with it bc all of our family is out of state so they mostly ordered online and had it shipped so it wasn't a actually going to the store to buy something issue
  • I've called them a few times about issues. As for the rewards, they informed me that if someone makes a purchase from your registry, but uses their rewards card, you will not see the rewards benefit for urself! Personally don't think it's right but that's there policy.
