Anyone having to get hydroxy progesterone injections?

hi ladies this is my second pregnancy and I was just recently informed that be cause my DD was born prematurely at 34 Wks I am to get hydroxy progesterone injections weekly to prevent another premature labor. I am just wondering if anyone else is going through this and if you have experienced any side affects and what not. Sorry I'm just a little nervous and need a little help putting my mind at ease

Re: Anyone having to get hydroxy progesterone injections?

  • I have not experienced this however I did have to give myself twice daily progesterone injections weeks 2-11 and never had any real side effects. My early "symptoms" may have been magnified due to the extra progesterone but I dont think the weekly injections will affect you with that aspect.
It's not as scary as it sounds. I've had a few friends needing this done and they only complained about having to go all of the way in to the Dr for a 2 min shot.

  • Thank you for that it does help...I'm pretty lucky that I won't have to go into the clinic every week my midwife is my sister in law so I know she will either come to me or I can go to her so that's a big plus and I know she would never suggest something that would be unsafe to me or her niece. I guess I am also wondering if the injections helped anyone make it either longer then the last time or even if they actually made it to the due date because would just be amazing
  • Hi! I didn't have to give myself progesterone injections but I use essential oils (young living) and was told to continue using Progessence Plus, which is Progesterone to avoid having a miscarriage and to just keep my hormones normal throughout my pregnancy. I love the way it smells and avoids me having to get shots. Just a thought. If you have any questions feel free to message me. :)

After going into preterm labor at 28 weeks docs were able to stop my preterm labor and gave me these shots baby born spontaneous natural birth at 34 weeks. Baby 2 with shots born 35 weeks | baby 3 with shots born 32 weeks | baby 4 with shots born 32 weeks.... Now this pregnancy I am wondering if it works cuz my babies are still early... Then again non 28 weeks so who knows... No adverse affects or reactions or problems at all with the shots in any pregnancies... Hope that helps a little
  • I'm on them. This is my third baby, and my other two were 6 and 4 weeks early after attempts to stop preterm labor at 31 weeks.

I've had two shots so far, and while they don't hurt too badly going in, they leave a wicked pain and burning in my rear for several days. I'll get them weekly until 35 weeks. So far I haven't noticed any side effects, although I've heard weight gain and moodiness are common. I'm just hoping baby stays in and these are worth it.
  • I'm on week 2. They're not as bad as progesterone in oil. And I haven't noticed any decided side effects.
I had an anxiety response, just felt anxious for the evening, but I think it's more psychological than an actual response to the shot.
  • I've had to get weekly p17 (progesterone in oil) shots with my last one but only had 6 or 7 injections and the sites started to swell, itch, hurt and got really hard so they rold me tp stop taking them. He threatened preterm labor around 31 weeks so I was put on bed rest and ended up having him induced at 39 weeks.
  • This Is my second pregnancy and I have to get hydroxy Progestrone injections. I went into pre-term labor at 30 weeks and delivered at 34 weeks. I have to have a home health care nurse come out once a week to give me the injection.

  • I have to get them as well since my DS was also premature at 34 weeks. I have a home nurse come to my house once a week too. I get weekly injections from 16 weeks through 36 weeks. I haven't had any side effects at all ...yet. I also made a similar thread like this a couple weeks ago so that thread might be helpful. Let me see if I can find it and give you a link.
