DD was born with a horizontal indentation on the back of her head- I'd say 1-2 in in length. Almost gives the appearance of a flat spot but not totally.  No one at the hospital commented, but now she's a month old and I'm worried she's going to end up in a helmet.  Anyone have anything similar?  Our 1-month visit isn't until Monday.

  • Babies have a soft spot on the back of their heads- called the posterior fontanelle. It is where the lambdoidal suture meets- which is kinda shaped like a Mercedes Benz sign. Maybe google it- maybe tgis is the line on the back of her head?

  • I read about that, but I can't find any pictures. This also doesn't seem like a soft spot, unfortunately.

I've included a side profile picture as maybe someone else can see it and relay info.  DD didn't have a coned head at birth, even though this picture might give that impression.  The only thing we were told now by a nurse in passing was her position in utero had shaped her head a little, but it would work itself out.  But isn't that plagiocephaly which sometimes requires PT/OT and a helmet?!
  • My LO has a long oval shape (looking down from the top) head. I was told it would work itself out by the pediatrician. BUT, I'm worried that it won't!

The bad advice I can give you is that both doctors that have seen my son said he has a perfectly round c section head. One doctor was when DS was 3 weeks old. I was surprised that she would still say that at 3 weeks old. So it seems like they may take longer than I thought to become a normal head shape.

  • I hate waiting until Monday to talk to the doctor. I will stew over it all weekend... :/
  • @ladyteach0505 .. Did you ever get an answer about this?
