So, I think we are all starting to get better at taking care of a baby. I know I have learned some things through trial and error that have made the day to day a little easier. I thought maybe it would be nice to have a place where we could share these little insights and learn from each other!
Here is one I would like to share after noticing some comments on other threads... I learned at my shower that the onesies with the little slits on the shoulders are not meant to go over LO'S head. Instead it is meant to be pulled up over their bodies and the slits let it stretch over arms and shoulders (which makes sense because their heads are the biggest part of their bodies). I find it is a lot easier to pull up than to fit that little shirt hole over an enormous noggin!
What do you guys have that might make baby care a little easier?
Re: Baby Tips and Tricks
Place a clean diaper under the dirty one before you start the diaper change. This way you can easily catch any unexpected bodily fluids if they happen before you finish up. Also if you're changing a poop diaper, use the front "pee portion" of the diaper as your first wipe and lay it on top of the poop. This will not only help contain the poop so the feet don't accidentally get in it, it also cuts down on how many wipes you use. Also if your wipes ever dry out, just use water to re-wet them, no need to throw them away. Another money saving tip, if your baby is transitioning into the next size diaper keep them in the smaller size as long as possible. Your cost per diaper is lower on smaller sizes.
I don't recommend trying to keep LO in smaller size diapers as long as possible. You'll save money but you'll have more blowouts. After a few midnight blowouts, it will feel like money well spent. At least on the nighttime diapers.
My tip for dealing with a cranky kid: take a glass and fill it with ice. Pour 1 shot of Hendricks gin. Top with tonic and garnish with a cucumber slice and sprig of mint. Drink and repeat as needed.
He hates it but sleeps much better/longer when swaddled. I wait til he's too tired to complain, then zip him into the Woombie.
My LO loves being in the big bathtub, with my hand under his head. He cries if we use the baby tub. At first we just thought he hated baths.
He is very sensitive to mood. If he's crying and I'm stressed, he cries longer. If I can make myself stay calm, and picture myself pushing loving energy to him, he calms down much faster. (Kind of hippy dippy, I know, but it seriously works!)
Before I start feeding him, I put my phone on one side of me and my tablet on the other. This way I can easily Bump with whatever hand ends up being free :-)
