Question for those currently weaning (or thinking about it)

I know there is a BFing thread, but this is a little different - let's talk WEANING!  Last Tuesday was the last time I nursed my son.  I am still wearing breast pads because I can still get milk out a week later.  I'm starting to run out of pads and I'm not sure if I should buy more - I haven't become engorged since stopping.  I can't remember how long I wore pads last go around, especially since I wasn't pregnant last round of weaning.  Any ideas??

  • Have you been leaking in them? I used pads with my second, but didn't even bother with my third (both are still nursing). If I felt a letdown coming, I'd just push pressure over my nipple with a finger and hold it for a few seconds and then be fine (usually I could manage it discreetly when in public so I didn't just look like I was tweaking myself or something

  • Could be that since your pregnant this time, your milk supply has already dipped? When I got pregnant with #2 (4m PP) my milk stopped abruptly. With #3, baby #2 was 20m and I didn't dry up until 9w along. She dry-nursed the whole pregnancy. I'm wondering if maybe I'll keep my milk a little longer this time; would love to, as the baby (16m) still nurses all thru the night, and dry nursing sucks!

  • It took me a solid 2 weeks after weaning both girls before my boobs stopped producing milk and I felt comfortable going pad-free. With my first I did the whole sha-bang - cabbage leaves, sage tea, etc. and I don't know if it helped dry it up faster or not. With my second I just wore a sports bra as often as I could so it was more comfortable and discouraged the mid-day spray.

  • Have you considered getting reusable ones? I used bamboobies (sp?) and they worked amazingly well! Then you can save them for this baby.

  • I love the bamboobies! They are so soft and comfy! I have 4 pairs. I just didn't feel like messing with them this time - washing, finding them in the wash, putting them in and taking them out. Just too lazy LOL
