week ahead but my due date is the same?

So my OB told me I'm 29 weeks and 4 days by the measurements of the baby but I'm supposed to be 28 weeks and 4 days but yet my due date is the same? I don't understand.. Not like it matters he'll get here when he gets here, but I wanna be prepared and it really messes with me that I have to click on the week ahead on here and my count down is wrong but I can't fix it unless I change my due date. That and did I mention I'm a planning freak and want to be prepared?! Lol

Re: week ahead but my due date is the same?

  • Same thing with me and my due date is staying the same too. I'm not too sure why because my sister who is also pregnant had hers changed when she was a week ahead at the beginning of her pregnancy! I guess it's nice I won't have to think she's a week late if she comes around my original due date though :)

They don't usually change the due date this far into pregnancy because babies can grow so differently. They should tell us size rather than how many weeks the baby is measuring, but I think they do that so we have an idea if the baby is in a 'normal' range. It doesn't necessarily mean your baby should arrive a week early.
  • My friend had her due day bumped ahead to match what the ultrasound was measuring and she was miserable when she was over due. It totally messed with her head. Baby's have growth spurts at different times so most Docs think it's better to stick with the original date determined by your LMP.
  • At any given point in your pregnancy, you could measure "ahead" or "behind" and it doesn't affect your EDD. A dating u/s in the first trimester might change your EDD, and circumstances like having multiples might change it. Don't click on the week ahead just because you're measuring a week ahead because it'll be harder as you near the end of this part of our journey. Example: I have a friend who measured two weeks behind with both of her boys from 30 weeks on, and they were both born at 39 weeks. I have another friend who frequently measured one week ahead with her daughter and went 10 days past her due date. The measurements now really just help track growth within a certain range.

  • Our ultra sound tech told us the doctor won't change the EDD unless baby starts measuring closer to two weeks different. Like pp's have said babies grow at such different rates it's difficult to use weeks as an accurate measurement at this point.
  • For my last 3 appointments I went in and baby was measuring 10-14 days ahead of my due date. When I went to this appointment, baby was right on track. They can grow quicker and slow down all the time.

As a side note, if you compare you pregnancy/baby to someone else all the time you are going to make yourself crazy. All babies grow and develop at different paces. Since you don't know all of the circumstances surrounding why their due date was moved, there could have been a number of other factors influencing it.
  • If you're a FTM, it's pretty common to go a week to 10 days past your EDD. So your baby could keep measuring a week "ahead" from now till the end and still be born a week "late."

I measured 24.5-25 weeks at my last appointment, and I had just reached 25 weeks the day prior. My doctor made no mention of my due date, just said baby was measuring right about where she's supposed to be.

  • my baby been always measuring more since the start, last ultrasound he measure almost two weeks ahead but they never have changed my due date, she just always tells me "everything looks great & it seems like youre going to have a big baby" & thats it .
  • I'm measuring a week and 4 days bigger and my Dr won't change my due date unless it's more then 2 weeks difference.

Second and Third trimester U/S measurements are not as accurate at determining baby's gestational age as first trimester US.  During the first trimester all babies generally grow at the same rate, after 14 weeks or so our fetus' start growing at their own individual rates.  They go through growth spurts at different times which can also affect measurements.

Fundal measurements are also not accurate tools to measure baby's size or development and can vary from doctor to doctor, by if you recently ate a meal or are constipated etc.  If you are consistently measuring ahead for several appointments your doctor may send you for a growth scan but an OB will rarely change your EDD this late in your pregnancy.

Some women have perfectly healthy 6 lb babies, some have healthy 9 lb babies.  A 6 lb baby will obviously have a different fundal measurement and/or measure differently on an U/S than a 9 lb baby, that doesn't necessarily mean that the bigger baby will come earlier.

ETA: Last pregnancy I was consistently measuring ahead 2-3 weeks for a month and a half (U/S and fundal). It evened out at about 36 weeks and DS only ended up being 6lb 8oz.
  • I measured a week ahead consistently this time. And my date us also showed about a week difference. I was unsure of my lmp but we are keeping my edd. Like others said ftm go longer on average, so it's nice for you to have some wiggle room to avoid induction. Just keep your mind frame on the edd they are going with. It'll make things easier than trying to adjust to a date you can't predict anyways.
  • My last baby measured 1-2 weeks ahead by fundal height for the entire second and third trimester. They never moved her EDD up, and she was still born after her original EDD - just 9lbs!
  • He is 10 days ahead of gestational age. My dr said it was because babies grow that way especially in Tyne second trimester. He said that the due date based on a 6 week sonogram was the most accurate and that even tho he is ahead it would not affect my due date. I am glad I am not the only one :)
