July 2015 Moms

WAY overwhelmed at hospital.

As soon as we got here three nurses have been coming in. While trying to focus on one the other two are doing or saying something. The nurse doing the I'v ended making me bleed very badly because I moved. I couldn't help crying. I mean bawling. To much happened so soon then family members came in and out and stayed hours. We aren't being induced until the morning now since the baby decided she wanted to start contracting at last minute.

  • Hang in there!! Hope you can get some rest and forget the stress when you meet your bundle of joy soon!

  • Yikes!  I would be overwhelmed too.  If you can, see if you can advocate for yourself.  Tell your nurses how you're feeling.  They are there to help you, and yes they have to do their jobs but at the same time you have the right to ask for what you need emotionally...
  • I second pp! If you can, have DH or someone get the head nurse on duty and ask for less attention/bodies in the room. Unless there is a medical reason, you should be made comfortable! Good luck, keep your mind on the prize that is coming.... Your baby!
  • Everyone is gone now they all piled in a half hour after we got here and stayed a few hours so it all happened so fast and the bleeding made things very scary. What we thought was just her moving was contractions so now everything got pushed back a day and they are telling us possible c section due to how big the baby is.

I hope all goes well that sounds very overwhelming :/ your baby will be here so soon though and you've made it so far! You have the strength to make it a little further. And the staff should make you comfortable by doing whatever they can so do not be afraid to ask.

Sounds like maybe there were a lot of people in the room because they were worried about you and trying to get you stabilized. If that was the case, you might not always be able to ask staff to leave, but you can ask for them to tell you what is going on. Goodluck

I thought too many people (family) in the room after baby came was overwhelming! I can't imagine all that during labor!!
  • They are all back I haven't been awake for an hour and nothing has changed.

Staff wasn't the problem my family is.
  • You should either inform a nurse or have your SO be your advocate and pull a nurse aside and inform them that you are uncomfortable with having so many people around. From what I've read, nurses are not afraid to get s*** done and will say whatever to friends/family to make sure you are comfortable if you are afraid of confrontation. This is YOUR birth experience so make sure you are in a stress free and soothing environment! Who cares what family thinks or says, you have the right to call the shots...you are the one about to squeeze a human out!!! Sending T&Ps your way and hoping you have a smooth delivery! You're almost there :)
  • Right now it's fine example just two people I'm just so sleepy at this point.

That's exactly why I said no to family during the labor/delivery part.

  • I did too they don't listen. I feel like a stage monkey on display.
  • In the UK this isn't allowed- you can have a maximum of two people in the room and they must be chosen in advance. It's a bit of a nuisance as I would quite like my sister and my mum as well as DH but it works well for everyone as you cannot be dealing with lots of people during labour- you're kind of busy! Hope all goes ok for you x

Recovery time in the hospital is when I felt overwhelmed by the nursing staff. They constantly come in and out when all I wanted was some privacy with my husband and our new addition.

I agree with the person who recommended that you ask for privacy. If not, you will have nurses in training tagging along with the nurses themselves, and it just becomes very frustrating. Be Vocal about your requests, and it may prevent as much traffic from coming through.
  • We had nurses in training it was more or less our family that was overwhelming. They only allow two people as well but before active labor it could be who ever.
