I don't know about the drop making you look smaller but when I told my doc I was having period like cramps that didn't last very long, he said they were bh or basically warm up contractions and that it was normal to experience them in the 3rd tri.
With DS I would not say that dropping made my belly look smaller, but this time it did. Every pregnancy really is different.
Again, contractions can feel different at different stages. It can be like a period cramp, or even a wave like cramp from the top of your belly to the bottom. Whether they are BH, practice contractions, or the real thing often depends on whether they are in consistent intervals. When in doubt, call your Dr.
For some reason every time I see the title of this post I think of the corny joke, "Is your refrigerator running? Well you better go catch it..." and so I read, "When your belly drops," and automatically think, 'You better pick it up!" Sorry, I'm a dork. But that being said, I agree I don't think it makes you look any smaller, just makes it uncomfortable and you feel more pressure. The good thing is sometimes it gives you more lung space to breath!! I have been carrying low this whole pregnancy, which my OB says is normal for #2.
I dropped about a week ago and the main reason I can tell is because my belly goes lower than it used to be. I used to be able to see my freckle I have on my tummy but now i can't it's way further down. Plus I can breathe! I do get bad back pain and cramps. It doesn't feel like period cramps. Mine are contractions that I can't stop unless I take procardia. My body is also trying to deliver early when it shouldn't be. I'm not saying that's what's happening to you tho. If you are ever concerned call your DR. Way better to be safe than sorry!
I've had period like cramps and back pain throughout this experience and for me, it's ok and normal. But if you are unsure, like others said, contact your physician just to make sure everything is ok. With that said, my belly looks smaller too now. What's best is I can breathe again But now I spend more time in the bathroom.
My belly dropped about 3 days ago. One night I started feeling movements so much lower than typical, I woke up and was like hey where the heck did my beach ball go. My belly does not look any smaller, just A LOT lower. Oh and I guess I never read any of the belly dropping threads or this never got brought up but I am so much more uncomfortable now. Little princess was never really in my ribs much and when she was I could breath fine, I would just get a burning sensation in one area. NOW it feels like my belly is literally straining towards the ground 24/7. You can go back up if you want little girl, I really dont mind!
